Ignacio is survived by his wife of 51 years Marta Suarez; his son and daughter-in-law Paul and Jacqueline Suarez of Houston; his daughter and son-in-law Diana Suarez and Adam Hines of Los Angeles; his 3 granddaughters Kaely Suarez, Jessica Suarez and Stevie Suarez Hines; his siblings Felipe Suarez of Houston, Patricia Alvarez of West Palm Beach, Jaime Suarez of Miami and their spouses; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and niece that he cherished deeply.
He was born on October 3, 1947 in Havana, Cuba, and was preceeded in death by his mother Graziella Portuondo Suarez and father Ignacio Suarez. "Nachito" fled from Cuba shortly after the Bay of Pigs Invasion at 13 years old with his oldest siblings Felipe and Patricia. He was placed in temporary foster care through Operación Pedro Pan before being reunited with his mother and youngest brother Jaime in Miami a couple of years later. Tragically, his father was unable to escape Cuba, captured as a member of counterrevolutionary forces before perishing as a prisoner of the Communist regime.
Ignacio completed high school at Holy Cross in New Orleans before attending (along with all 3 of his siblings) Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. While in college he met Marta Ramos, a Loyola University student, and the two were married in 1969 in New Orleans. Peter, as his professional colleagues would call him, took an accounting job at Standard Brands (Nabisco) in Denison, Texas where his children Paul and Diana were born. After over 30 years with the company, including a move to Indiana before settling for good in Houston in 1987, he created his own ADP Travel Agency, where he would spend the rest of his professional career. Ignacio had a passion for travel and serving others. He found great joy in being able to make arrangements and book vacations for his clients, family and friends with his extensive knowledge of how and where to travel anywhere in the world.
Ignacio was a devoted husband and loving father. He was alway thrilled to drink his Cuban coffee, make his famous Sunday morning pancakes, let his daughter style his hair or open packs of baseball cards with his son. He also enjoyed collecting stamps and watching LSU or Texas A&M football. HIs infectious smile and good heart always shined bright as he was loved by those that knew him well and will be missed by many more.
A viewing is scheduled for 10am to be followed by a Catholic service at 11am on Monday, November 9, at Advantage Funeral Home located at 7010 Chetwood Drive, Houston, TX 77081.
