Herminia Gutierrez was born in Addicks, Texas. Her parents Simon and Guadalupe had 13 children in total of which seven survived. Herminia was the eldest daughter who accepted the role of loving caretaker for the family. She is survived by brother Jose Gutierrez, sisters, Guadalupe Gutierrez, Lorenza Guajardo, and Alicia Guiterrez. Although she retired to the Texas Hill Country with her siblings she considered Houston home and was a parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Church.
Herminia attended IHM Catholic school and aspired to accept the sacrament of Vocation. In her teens she suffered an illness that impeded her calling to serve God through sisterhood. She was an intelligent young lady who enjoyed drawing. After completing secondary studies she briefly joined the workforce but there was another calling; it was the calling to care for family.
She managed the household with her mother and then fully accepted the tasks as her mother aged. She lived a life surrounded by family and never sought other life-paths. Her want was for her siblings, nieces and nephews to remain close in communication and interactivity. We must keep this in thought and action.
Herminia helped raised several nieces and nephews. They loving referred to her as Mina. For some, she was considered a “mother” figure who not only provided care but help with homework, religious and other teachings. She loved having the children visit “grandma’s” house. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and spending time with family.
Mina will be remembered as an excellent homemaker, caretaker and spiritual matriarch. She spent the last month of life with family nearby, as she was in the hospital and, at her home bedside at Silver Creek Ranch Montell, Texas. We have another Gutierrez Angel amongst us; we take solace in knowing she is no longer in pain but at peace in heaven with her parents and siblings. Herminia Gutierrez was a role model for compassion. Her actions in life, devotion to God and family exemplify unselfish caring and love. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 14, 2018 from 5-9 PM with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.
