Herbert Herbie "Herbie" Loesch

Herbert "Herbie" J. Loesch was born June 21, 1935 and passed away on June 28, 2013 after celebrating just over 78 years of life. Herbie was born in Galveston, Texas and raised by his parents, Louise Maier Loesch and Frank Loesch. Growing up, he spent time with his sisters, Mary Huffman, Charlotte Edwards and his brother, Frank Loesch Jr. Herbie met another Galvestonian, Jenneth, and the two spent 50 happily married years together. Herbie’s college years were spent at The University of Texas in Austin, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering, followed by a master’s degree at Texas A&M University. He also honorably served his country in The United States Army. The following years were filled with travel as Herbie’s career as a chemical engineer for Alcoa and Mobil Oil Company took them all over the world. Herbie and Jenneth added two children to their family, Herbert J. “Joe” Loesch Jr., and Susan Loesch Furman. Later, Herbie and Jenneth became doting, loving grandparents to Benjamin Loesch, Maggie Sue Loesch, and Brihida “Bri” Furman.

Herbie will be forever remembered as a happy-go-lucky, carefree spirit whose smile always warmed the hearts of anyone around him. He loved watching the bustling activity of the stock market on television and closely monitored news the world over by taking his time reading the newspaper every day. He also loved spending time with his family on the San Antonio river walk, a favorite gathering spot for family outings and meals. Herbie didn’t place emphasis on material possessions for himself, but once an engineer, always an engineer; he wore his beloved pocket protector (or at least one from his collection) faithfully throughout his career and now in Heaven.

Herbie’s parents, dear sister Charlotte, devoted wife Jenneth, and loving son Joe preceded him in death, but welcomed him again upon his passing. His sister Mary and brother Frank, along with his daughter Susan and all of his grandchildren survive him in life and will always miss his generous, happy spirit. The family would also like to especially thank Dr. Paul Holoye for his enduring care and friendship during Herbie's 18-year battle with lymphoma.

Services will be held Wednesday, July 3, beginning with a visitation at 9:00am at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in the Chapel, followed by the funeral service at 10:00am. Entombment will immediately follow in the Chapel of the Oaks Mausoleum.
