Mrs. Blackwell was born on the 29th of November 1927, to John (Pat) and Edna Stroud. In her teenage years the family moved from Tyler, Texas to Houston where she would meet her future husband, a young Air Force Lieutenant, L.D. Blackwell. She attended Stephen F. Austin Senior High School where she was a lieutenant major in the Scottish Brigade Drill team. After graduation Mrs. Blackwell worked at the United Gas Corporation for several years. She married L.D. Blackwell on April 24, 1948 in a beautiful ceremony held at the partners of Henke/Pillot grocers Pillot House with the stairs which were much favored by all the brides at the time. The young couple settled in Southeast Houston where L.D. continued running the plastics company, Blackwell Plastics and Extrusion, that he co-founded with his father in 1939. In 1953 the couple welcomed their daughter when many of the "after war-baby boomers" were born. Mrs. Blackwell was a member of the First Presbyterian church, The Houstonian and the Forest Club.
She was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Rockwell Payne and Helen's husband of 67 years L.D. Blackwell who recently passed away just 5 months ago.
She is survived by her daughter Karen M. Blackwell and grandson Matthew Blackwell and several nephews and a niece. Special thanks to Drs. C. Kent Osborne and David Aguilar of Baylor College of Medicine.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock in the evening until eight o'clock on Friday, the 22nd of January, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
