Harry Douglas Hughes was born April 1, 1949 in Pineland, Texas to Forest and Elizabeth Hughes. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Lester, Ola, Forest Jr., Lonnie, Leon, Lottie, Lucy, Henry, and Ray. He begin his journey in life in Pineland Texas where he was he accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Evergreen Baptist Church. He was an active member at New Mount Calvary Baptist Church where he was a deacon, participated in the Mass Choir, Men's Chorus, Men's Ministry and Sunday school. At the age of 17 he lost both parents and resided with his brother Henry in Brookeland Texas. He attended Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia Arkansas on a full basketball scholarship where he received his first degree in Education. He met and married Saundra Dykes at SAU and to this union Angela Elizabeth Hughes was born. As years went by, Harry moved to Houston and was a coach, teacher. He had a career change and become a Houston Police Officer. After earning his Master's Degree in Education, he made another career change and became a High School Administrator at Crosby and later on Channelview Independent School Districts. He retired in 2000 after serving 30 years in Education due to Colon Cancer. His favorite past time was caring for his horses. He participated in numerous trail rides preserving our American Culture. Harry leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Saundra L. Hughes, his only child, Angela Elizabeth Hughes-McCarter, his only grandchild Makayla DeAnn McCarter and his son-in-law Derek G. McCarter. He also leaves to mourn: his siblings, Zula Coleman (Willie Sr.), Bertha Alston, Charles Hughes, Leroy Hughes, Bonnie Hughes, Frank Hughes (Jerry) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Last but not least his "boys" Blaze and Easy Going.
