Harold Lloyd Guillory went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 4, 2016. He was born June 7, 1925 in Eunice, Louisiana to MarieAnna Fuselier Guillory and Joseph E. Guillory. He first moved to Houston when six weeks old. He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Mary Protaskey Guillory, his mother and father, and brother, James Howell. He was a devoted and loving father to his three daughters Sandra (Mike Squires), Janet (Lynn Charles) and Dr. Karen Guillory. He was the cherished grandfather of John Kyle (Claudia) and Stephanie Squires, and Bryan and Justin Charles (fiancée Hannah) and great grandfather of Kyle Squires. He leaves behind two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Harold grew up in the Houston Heights, entering Reagan High School in1941. He left school to join the Navy June 6, 1943 and proudly served during WWII as an aviation machinist flight engineer on PBY aircraft, and was a Navy boxer. Returning to Houston in March 1946, he graduated from Sam Houston High School then entered the University of Houston, playing football for the Cougars. He worked at Southern Pacific Railroad and graduated June 1950 with a degree in Business Administration. Hugh Roy Cullen handed him his diploma. He served in the Naval Reserves from 1946 to 1963 with the rank of Ensign.
Harold began his business career at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, where he met his sweetheart, Mary. Harold was a retired professional pharmaceutical representative for Merrell-Dow Pharmaceuticals. He had a long and successful career, having several times been named national salesman of the year. He had served as President of the Houston Drug Travelers Association and was a founding member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
Harold was a giving person, who never met a stranger and made all who knew him feel important and cared about. He was the most wonderful father. His wisdom, love, sound counsel and extraordinary sense of humor will be greatly missed. The family appreciated his loving caregivers Val, Raquel and Rona.
Friends gathered for a visitation with the family at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10th in the chapel of Waltrip Funeral Directors, where the Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m.
The Funeral Liturgy was 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 11th in the sanctuary of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 10688 Shadow Wood Drive in Houston, with Reverend Niall Nolan as celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, the family expressed their appreciation for memorial contributions in Harold's name, being directed to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, or to an American Veterans charity.
