Harold William Clemons, Sr., 97, of Houston, Texas was born in Farmer City, Illinois and entered into eternal life the morning of October 9, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Harold was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him.
He attended Lexington High School, worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps, served in the United States Army during World War II and Korea. He married Avis Powell in 1946 and they were married just short of 70 years. The day after their wedding they moved to Galveston, Texas where he starting working for Humble Oil. He retired from Exxon after 34 years of service. He and Avis loved to travel, he loved the challenge of fixing anything, and loved being with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Avis P. Clemons; parents, Jess and Ethel Clemons; sister, Alice Freeman; and brothers, George Clemons and Jack Clemons. He is survived by his daughter, Martha Gossett and husband, Bill; son, Harold W. Clemons, Jr. and wife, Nancy; and son, Stephen W. Clemons and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Jason Clemons, Georgie Stevens, Christine Clemons, Andrew Clemons, Christopher Gossett and Bryan Gossett; numerous great-grandchildren and extended family members.
Memorial Services will be Thursday, October 12, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at Kingsland Baptist Church, 20555 Kingsland, Katy, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
