Coach Stanford was my Offensive Lineman coach in the late 70’s and early 80’s.  He was a very good man.  I remember hot August days pushing the “sled”, (with him on it coaxing us to push-push-push), his whistle, and his exasperation if you missed a “pull” and the corresponding linebacker that sacked the QB!  HAHA!  He also reminded us more “portly” boys- “As long as your chest is bigger than your belly, your fit”!  He cared and it showed.  To his family- I’m sorry for your loss.

Coach Stafford stayed in my mind and spirit over the years.  True leader and great coach.  They don't make many like him any more.  Just a good ol’ boy. Taught me the rule of life. “be Coachable, son”.  I still say that to my kids and co workers when i need em to take it serious.  And when things get tough i get my “head up, tail down, face in their mustache, and driiivvve em back”. 

See you again soon (later rather than sooner, hopefully) in the Lords Kingdom Coach.

Coach Stafford!!!!   He was the best!   I still tell stories about Guy Stafford  to this day.

He was a man with a loving heart, a kind spirit and a great person.

It made me cry to hear of his passing.  I will always remember Coach Stafford.

RIP Coach. The time we had together at SHS was golden. Your were always a kind and caring man that taught me a lot outside our profession. Thanks for be a friend to talk to when I was having a bad day in the Training Room. You pumped me up more than once. You touched many lives and will not be forgotten. 

I am sorry to hear of his death. He was a good man. He was my coach  in 7th and 8th graders at SWJH and 9th and 10th grades at SWHS. After I no longer played football, he was still concerned and interested in how I was doing. My condolences to his family. RIP

I am truly sorry to hear that Coach Stafford has passed.  He was absolutely one of the great guys and one of my favorite coaches of all time...  I first got to know Coach when I was an underclassman at Spring Woods High School, probably about 1965.  He was a patient presence on the field and a great teacher of the game of football.  Although I have not seen Coach in a few years, I will miss him.  My thoughts and prayers are with the Stafford family.

Guy made me some Christmas decorations in the early 90’s that I used until a couple of years ago.  They meant so much to me & reminded me of he & Jeannie every time I used them.  He was so kind & sweet to me.  I wil always remember him!!

A good guy and a great coach!!

I didn't have a long storied history with Coach Stafford.

 I remember the first time I talked to him I was scared to death. I was wondering what I got myself into.

As time went on, I realized how good of a coach he was and how much fun he was to be around.  In the offseason, we were wrestling as part of conditioning. Somebody flipped the guy he was wrestling against. I remember Coach Stafford going...somebody's been watching to much damn TV...
IT was at a time when the WWF was huge. Everybody cracked up.

He loved to discuss food as well.

It wasn't a mistake that Stratford had so many good teams while he was there.

I'm sorry for your loss, Stafford family!! Things will never be the same, but they will get better. Keep your chin up!! 

Guy was a good and fun friend growing up together in Galveston during the 50’s. He was one of the calmest and easygoing people that I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. He has now gone to his permanent home, May he Rest In Peace.

I knew Guy almost from the earliest of childhood.  It seems to me that we were always in Galveston public schools together.  Lord knows he was always well thought of. And, while he was rather reserved, oddly, everyone knew when Guy was there, irrespective of the size of the crowd! That seems to me to be a paradox.

Like so many others did, when I got the message that Guy had died, I was in total shock.  There's no question, however, in my mind that Guy will be their to meet all his friends when our souls also move to Heaven.   That knowledge brings us peace.  A special blessing wish for Elva.
