Gretchen Schopps Bunch Moore, age 84 of Bellaire,Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 31, 2018. She was born to the late Rodney Dennis and Eleanor Starr Schopps on May 5, 1933 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Gretchen attended Saint Stephens Parochial School as a young girl, a dedicated Catholic placing a huge lifelong importance on her faith. Gretchen was the youngest of her family and proud to brag that her favorite days of childhood were those spent down on Lake Michigan with friends. She also loved crafts and creating anything with color, and found herself with a keen eye as an interior decorator in her adult years. When Gretchen was a senior in high school, she was crowned homecoming queen by State Representative Gerald Ford who later became the 38th President of the United States.
Gretchen met Robert Kern Bunch, the future father of her five children in Chicago. This union paved the way for her to soon call Texas home at the young age of nineteen. She was a very busy mom and continued to have a very active life into her adult years. She was her children’s greatest advocate, focused on family and definitely tradition. Gretchen was active in the PTO, her children’s extra-curricular activities and with numerous charitable organizations. Genuine and fun-loving friendships were also Gretchen’s passion and delight. She loved to host and entertain frequently. Traveling annually with her 40+ lady friends known as the Yellow Roses brought her great delight with friends she considered family. She loved playing the piano, tennis, and bridge too! When she least expected it, she found herself a widow but within a handful of years was swept off her feet by Jimmie (JC), a very kind and loving man who embraced family. Jimmie’s presence in Gretchen’s life had her smiling from ear to ear like a giddy school girl with a big crush on her sweetheart. Jimmie and Gretchen shared many loving years together with the support of their large blended family.
In addition to her parents, Gretchen was preceeded in death by her sister Mary Schopps Roach, brothers Robert Schopps and Thomas Edward Schopps, her first husband, Robert Kern Bunch, sons Michael Bunch and William “Bill” Bunch. She leaves behind her husband Jimmie C Moore, son Robert Craig Bunch and his partner Susan Toomey Frost, daughter Natalie Bunch Roux and her husband Mark Roux, daughter Susan Bunch Garczynski and daughters-in-law Karen Bunch and Donna Bunch.
