Grady Howton, 84, of Houston, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 14, 2011. He was born to the late Grady and Hazel Howton, April 15, 1927, in Birmingham, Alabama. He married Nancy Melton in 1951, and they eventually settled in Houston. Grady retired from Nabisco in 1989 after 25 years of service. During his tenure, he received numerous recognitions, including the setting of sales records and salesman of the year.
Grady was an active member of Terrace United Methodist Church, serving on a variety of committees, participating in the Pilgrim Sunday School class, and serving as an usher. He was a marshal at Pinecrest Country Club and volunteered as a school crossing guard at Pine Shadows Elementary School in Spring Branch. He loved to travel, and took 20 cruises with his wife in his lifetime. He was a loving and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose gentle ways will be deeply missed.
Grady is survived by his wife, Nancy, and his three children: Lee and his wife, Kay Howton; Doug and his wife, Sue Howton; and Janis and her husband, Doug Jordan. He is also survived by his brother Hugh, and his wife Jane Howton as well as seven grandchildren: Jonathon, Amanda, Christopher, Douglas, Cassidy, David and Anna.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, October 17, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Terrace United Methodist Church, 1203 Wirt Road, Houston, TX, 77055.
