Glenn Walter Huffman died on September 29th, 2016 at the age of 87. Glenn was born in a farming community of Grapevine, Texas on September 14th, 1929 to Walt Huffman and Johnnie Henslee Huffman. He graduated from North Texas State University and married the love of his life, Rose Hay. He was employed by Exxon for 37 years, beginning as a truck driver for the Humble Oil company and ending his career reporting to the Chairman of the Board for Exxon USA. His farming roots instilled a strong work ethic and his career brought his family to various parts of Texas and California. During those California years Glenn enjoyed camping with Rose and their three sons, Glenn Jr., Jim, and Jon. As a young growing family, they often vacationed in a travel trailer, touring most of the western states and Canada. Glenn and Rose's travels carried them to all 50 states and parts of Europe and Asia.
Glenn was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church since 1970 and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over sixty years. Glenn had a steady influence on those closest to him. Never afraid of sharing his voice and thoughts, Glenn enjoyed long walks and slow conversations. Discussions, philosophizing, stories, and anticdotes from his farming youth were usually the ingrediants of any meal shared with Glenn Huffman and his storytelling came natural. His walks through the neighborhood opened opportunities to greet and converse with his neighbors and the neighborhood laps on his blue tricycle will be noticeably absent. He valued honesty and integrity in others and strived to carry those traits in his own actions. He was blessed with a strong family foundation and his steady influence was a source of strength. He was a good father, grandfather, and a caring spouse. He is survived by his son Jim and wife Gwendolyn, son Jon and his wife Patricia. He loved his grandsons Jubal, Jesse (wife Quinta), Jacob (wife Brittany), and Jeremy. Glenn had three great-grandchildren Stephen, Emunah Rose, and Clara. Glenn is also survived by two nephews who he remained close, Joe Pitts and Walter Huffman. In the last five years of his life Glenn felt blessed to have two gifted confidants and caretakers Beverly Cotton and Efia (Mary) McGlown both loved him and shared a big part of his daily routine that enabled him to continue to enjoy the quality of life he wanted. Glenn's wife Rose and their eldest son Glenn Jr. preceded him in death. Glenn and Rose shared a fruitful marriage and their steady influence will be missed by those who knew them.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Huntington's Disease Society of America in memory of Rose.
