Glasier Crawford was born July 11, 1936 to the late Herman Crawford and Iona Rayson Crawford in Marshall, Texas. Glasier transitioned from this life on earth to his rightful place in Heaven on September 28, 2024.
Glasier accepted Christ at an early age while attending Union Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas. He was actively involved in the 4H club and Future Farmers of America (FFA) while attending high school. Glasier was a graduate of H.B. Pemberton High School in Marshall, Texas where he earned a four-year scholarship to attend Prairie View A&M University where he studied animal science and agriculture. Glasier matriculated through Prairie View A&M University for two years before settling in Houston, Texas to join the Houston Police Department.
In the late-fifties Glasier applied to the Houston Police Academy and was accepted as one of the only black officer cadets to successfully complete Class #20. His HPD assignments included working in the traffic control and jail divisions. Glasier vowed to protect and serve the citizens of Houston, Texas where he often worked undercover to decrease crime in the Fifth Ward area. He worked at the Houston Police Department for 20 years before retiring with full benefits and honors at the age of 42.
Glasier was a savvy, strategic professional that went on to cultivate successful businesses: Crawford Pipeline, Inc. and G. Crawford Delivery and Storage Company. Crawford Pipeline generated a healthy number of jobs and revenue for machine pipe beveling specialists for many customers in the energy industry. He benefited greatly from the oil and gas boom in Texas in the 80’s. In the 90’s and 2000’s Glasier was well known in the trucking industry with G. Crawford Delivery and Storage servicing customers across the United States. He was a mentor and role model for many young truckers who have competently gone on to build businesses and companies of their own. Glasier enjoyed boat restoration and fishing along with traveling in his RV up until his final days.
Glasier married the love of his life, Dorothy Jackson Crawford, December 30, 1990. They enjoyed a comfortable life of traveling, celebrating milestone occasions and spending time with family and friends. Glasier was passionately involved in church as a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church after joining in 1992 under the leadership of Pastor C.L. Jackson. He was a leader serving as a Sunday School teacher and appointed as a deacon. Deacon Crawford continued his stewardship under Dr. Sheldon L. Jackson with a willingness to serve the church in any capacity. The legacy he leaves will be deeply missed.
Glasier was preceded in death by his father, Herman Crawford and mother, Iona Rayson Crawford, son, Derrick Crawford, daughter by marriage, Yolanda Smith, his brothers, John Crawford, Nathaniel Crawford, Joe Crawford and Clarence Crawford.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae Jackson Crawford, his children Barry Crawford (Tameaka), Gerald Crawford (Alesia), Stephen Braggs (Tonya), Michael Crawford, Marlon Crawford, Matthew Crawford (Fallon), Stephanie Crawford Jackson, children by marriage, Jacqueline Smith, Alfred Smith (Shalonda), Shantel Edwards (Wayne) and Tamaiki Thomas-King (Terrance), sisters Nettie Robinson, Betty Richardson Marsden, Lilly Crawford Matthews, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Glasier will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. The funeral service will immediately follow from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. The committal will follow from 3:45 PM to 4:00 PM at Paradise Funeral Home & Cemetery North, 10401 W Montgomery Rd, Houston, TX 77088.
