George Edward Stanley, 75, of Houston, Texas, passed to the embrace of our Creator on March 25, 2017. He was the embodiment of kindness, humility and compassion, bound inextricably with honesty, integrity, and pride.
George was born in Dubuque, Iowa on April 4, 1941. He moved to Corpus Christi, Texas with his family as a young boy. He enjoyed growing up close to the ocean, and orchestrating shenanigans in the halls of his alma mater, W. B. Ray High School, with his best friend, Tom Sturdivant.
Moving to Houston shortly after graduation, he worked as an ambulance driver and EMT while attending Commonwealth School of Mortuary Science. George also spent a good deal of time as a limousine driver where he collected a bevy of stories with a lengthy list of celebrities, from John Wayne to Joan Crawford, from the Grateful Dead to The Beatles.
George's passion in life was working as a Funeral Director. He was happiest when serving others and helping to make the transition of life and death more bearable. This passion has not been extinguished, he is simply directing from the other side now.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lettie E. Stanley, his children, Ray L. Beale, Richard L. Beale, Mark E. Stanley and Jennifer J. Stanley, his grandchildren, Laura A. Boehm, Ray Lucas Beale, his great-grandchildren, Aurora Jane Boehm, and Alida Georgette Boehm, and sister and brother-in-law Kathy & Michael Reid, along with a host of extended family.
A celebration of his life will be held in the Family Chapel of Brookside Funeral Home at 2:00pm, Saturday April 1, 2017. Family will begin receiving guest at 1:00pm. Burial to immediately follow at Brookside Memorial Park.
