George Eldridge Shepard, a veteran of the Vietnam War era, passed away January 28, 2022. “Ba-Brother,” as he was affectionately known to many friends and family members, was born September 29, 1947, in Washington, Texas to the late George and Johnie Mae Shepard. He was the fourth child out of seven. He is preceded in death by his brothers Winston (Church) Clyde Shepard Sr., Donald Goree Shepard Sr., and sister Prudie Lorena Shepard Lendon.
George received his early education in Washington County, Texas. Shortly after graduating from Pickard High School in Brenham, Texas, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and rapidly moved up in ranks as a Squad Leader. During his brave and patriotic tour in Vietnam, George was recognized for his noble service with a Purple Heart, a Silver Star and a Good Conduct Medal for his gallantry and heroic efforts. George was proud to be a Veteran. Often, strangers would stop and thank him for his service. This made his heart swell with pride.
Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge from the war, George returned home and attended Texas A&M University where he received a “Methods of Technical Instruction” certificate. He enrolled in several Cameron Quality Education programs and attended R.J. Horn School of Drafting. For more than 35 years, he worked in the Iron and Oil & Gas industries – namely Cameron Iron Works, CE Steel and Shell Oil. He retired from Shell Oil with over 20 years of service.
George had the most genuine soul; he took pleasure and happiness in being a loving husband to his wife and a father to his children. He was blessed with an extensive network of family and friends who loved him very much. He made friends everywhere he went and was always the first to lend a helping hand.
George devoted his life caring for his family. He loved them unconditionally and made many sacrifices for them. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: wife Delores Shepard; three children by his former wife (Brenda Alley): Ellirich, George (Carrie); and Susan (William); and stepdaughter, Jannise, all of Houston, Texas.
He also leaves behind, two stepsons, Jason (Wanda) of Dallas, Texas, and Gregory (Shantel) of Houston, Texas. Also, to mourn his passing are sisters, Gloria Spencer (Roscoe) of East Moline, Illinois, Wilma Green of Houston, Texas and Betty (Dottie) Shepard of Waco, Texas; fourteen grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
