George Calvert Robinson, 80, passed away Sun. Jan. 22, 2012 in Houston, TX and is now with our Lord. He resided for many years in Lafayette, LA, and Markelsville, Perry County, PA. Born Jun. 15, 1931 in Charleston, WV, he is survived by wife Gwen; sister Alice; children Margaret, George, Thomas and James; and grandchildren John, Mike, Nicole, Matt, Natalie, Nick, Daniel, Sarah, and Alex.
George was a proud veteran of the US Army having served at the U.S. Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama. George was also a proud alumnus of Marshall University (BS Geology) and West Virginia University (MS Geology).
George and Gwen moved from Morgantown, West Virginia to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1957 to begin his career as a petroleum geologist. A few years later they moved to Lafayette, Louisiana where they raised their family and resided until his retirement. In 1988, George and Gwen retired to Markelsville, PA until 2000 when they moved to the Northwest area of Houston, TX to be close to their children and grandchildren.
George was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1955 at the age of 24 while serving in the military. He worked through every challenge Multiple Sclerosis presented to him over the next 56 years. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, caring friend and neighbor, thoughtful colleague and very successful businessman throughout that period. He was always forward-looking, and he always possessed a positive attitude and enjoyed life, family and friends. His family enjoyed the many activities and hobbies he pursued as well as many family vacations and fun activities which have shaped the family members and generations to this day.
A Visitation will be held Fri. Jan. 27, 2012 from 3-5pm at Brookside Funeral Home-Cypress Creek, 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX followed by a Memorial Service at 5pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in his name at http://main.national mssociety.org/goto/robinson.
