Gary Rochelle Carter was born in Cherokee County of Jacksonville, Texas on August 9, 1953, to the proud parents of Alvin Marlin and Dorris Loueise Hayes Carter. Gary was the fifth born of 14 children to this union. When he was four years old, his parents moved to Houston. He attended the Houston Public School system until graduating from M. B. Smiley High School in the North Forest Independent School District.
Gary accepted Christ while attending the Worldwide Church of God. Later, he moved his membership to Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor George Sims. He was an active and devoted member where he faithfully attended Sunday school and joyfully served in the Usher and Brotherhood ministries until his health declined.
Gary enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also thoroughly enjoyed listening to music, playing checkers, and shooting pool.
After working in the oil field industry for several years, Gary retired early.
On May 20, 1972, Gary married his middle school sweetheart, Frettie Mae Limbrick. To this union, two sons were born.
On June 3, 2023, in the early evening, Gary peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest while surrounded by family. Gary was preceded in death by his father: Alvin Marlin Carter; brothers: Winfred Donell Carter, James Marlin Carter, Kenneth Edward Carter, Louis Arden Carter, Kevin Leveanne Carter, and Aubrey Lloyd Carter; grandparents: Lee Lloyd Carter, Annie Rose Session Carter, Finis Dean Hayes I, and Clara Belle Coleman Hayes; and nephew: Joe Rogers Lee Johnson, III.
Gary leaves to cherish his memory two sons Andre T. Carter and Gary J. Carter of Houston, Texas; two grandsons Trevon D. Carter and Jase J. Carter of Houston, Texas; one granddaughter Jaday L. Carter of Houston, Texas; mother Dorris L. Carter of Houston, Texas; five brothers Michael E. Carter, Gerald L. Carter (Andrea), David L. Carter of Houston, Texas; Arnold A. Carter (Tonya) of Moss Point, Mississippi and Alvin B. Carter (Deirdre) of Missouri City, Texas; two sisters Wylita Carter Johnson (Joe Jr.) and Clarette Carter Walker (Reginald Sr.) of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
