She was born to Nellie Iva Allen and Albert Alexander Sterling in Batson, Texas on the 30th of December 1918. The family moved to Houston when she was an infant where she lived the rest of her long life.
She married the love of her life on the 17th of May 1947. Harold F. Thurow was an accomplished lawyer, author and teacher, qualified and admitted as an attorney and counselor to the Supreme Court of the United States. Frances and Harold raised a family, played and prayed together, traveled the world and danced the night away.
She was a descendant of revolutionary war hero Alexander Love and was a member of the Alexander Love Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She was proud to be a native Texan and her family’s service and contribution to Texas and belonged to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, The River Oaks Friendship Club, The Current Study Club, and WOW! - Women of Westminster Methodist Church.
She cherished her surviving family: son Hal Thurow and his wife Susie; daughter Alice Nowotny and her husband Ned; and grandchildren Beth Thurow, Ben Thurow, Emma Geisel and her husband Joey, Anna Pinto and her husband P.J. She loved her two great-grandchildren Jordyn and Josiah. Other beloved family includes Clay Sterling, Dr. Charles Shaw, Anne and Bert Johnson, Catherine and Tom McKenna, Holt and Laura Johnson, Jimmy and Sandra Sterling, and Duane Thurow.
Special thanks and appreciation from the family goes to Maria Gabriel Hornung, and Betty Gabriel for their years of service, loving care, dedication and support.
A funeral service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 1st of October, at Westminster United Methodist Church, 5801 San Felipe in Houston, where the Rev. Meredith Mills is to officiate.
Immediately following, guests are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the nearby parlor.
The family will gather for a private entombment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston at a later date.
