Faye D McBee

Faye Decker McBee, 88 years of age, was born in Houston, Texas on October 22, 1927 to Grace Butler Decker and Montgomery Coe Decker, for whom Decker’s Prairie bears his family name. She went home to be with The Lord on August 2, 2016 after a brief battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Faye is survived by her husband Tobin Clayton McBee (Toby) of 70 years; her son Randall Tobin McBee, his wife Terrill Lynn, and granddaughter Heather Colleen Butscher, her husband Brian, her great-granddaughter Lily Colleen; granddaughter Faye Kathleen (Katie) Abbott, her husband Geoff, her great-grandson, Clayton Robert; Her daughter Peggy A. Jones, her husband Rick, her granddaughter Amy Christine Robeson, her husband Richard, her great-granddaughter, Madeline Katherine, her great-grandson Landen Scott; Her grandson Timothy Jacob (TJ) Jones, his wife Lorie Lynette, her great-grandsons Tobin Allen, Levi Jacob and Tracen Eric; her son Kenneth Howard McBee, his wife Dolores, her grandson Lionel Charles (Lonnie) McBee, her great-grandson Blaine Harrison, her great-granddaughter Elliott Mae, her granddaughter Becky Reagan Cauwels; her granddaughter Rachel Michelle McBee, her great-granddaughter Chloe Madeline; her grandson Timothy Aaron McBee, his wife Elizabeth Ann, her great-grandson William Ryan (Liam); her granddaughter Melissa Ann McBee, her great-grandson Dillon Michall, her great-granddaughters Laurie Ann and Elizabeth Grace.

After growing up in Conroe, Texas, Faye came to Houston to live with her sister Ruth Brumley and work for Big Three Welding Company. She met and married Toby on August 10th 1946 at Houston’s First Baptist Church at 1010 Lamar. They raised their family in Bellaire and Sharpstown. When the children were of school age, Faye went to work at First State Bank of Bellaire in 1958. During her tenure, she rose from the rank of teller to Vice President. She retired from the bank in 1988…3o years of serving friends in the Bellaire area. Faye and Toby raised their family to love the Lord and worship and serve at Richmond Plaza Baptist church, where Toby served as a deacon and Faye served on numerous committees. She volunteered at the Willow Meadows Baptist Church Food Pantry where she kept the financial books for numerous years. After the kids left home, Toby and Faye moved their church membership to Westbury Baptist Church. In 2013, they moved back home to Houston’s First Baptist Church where they started their lives together six decades before.

Upon retirement, Faye made a list of activities and skills she wanted to accomplish. They included oil painting, china painting, tatting, crocheting, sewing, embroidering and quilting. The list included over thirty items. To our knowledge, she accomplished them all and tore up the list. Her desire was to quilt each one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren a quilt. She came very close to doing just that. The last two quilts---for great-granddaughters 13 and 14, Elizabeth and Lilly, were completed in May of 2016—this year.

Faye’s greatest joy came in serving her family and friends. Whether working at the bank, which provided each of her children with a college education, or baby sitting, running after-school car pool, or putting together the Christmas shopping trips with all eight grandchildren, or celebrating family get-togethers at our home on Roos Road, she loved just talking to and being with her family. She and Toby worked hard to provide a loving, encouraging, nurturing environment for the kids and grand kids to grow up in. We all knew we were loved. Faye and Toby are respected among their peers as “the couple who show us how to live a life of love and respect. “ She was greatly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She taught us how to live. And we will continue to pass on her legacy.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 8th, 2016 at Houston’s First Baptist Church Chapel (7401 Katy Freeway Houston, TX 77024) at 11:00 AM, with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations will be received at Houston’s First Baptist for Hope House—a Pastoral Care Ministry coordinated by Faye’s daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Rick Jones, which provides free housing for patients and their care givers who come to Houston’s Medical Center for medical or cancer treatment.
