Faye Spruce Jackson passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, January 22, 2024, at the age of 95. She lived a long, full, beautiful life, departing peacefully in her sleep, at home in the comfort of her bed with her family by her side.
Her life was full of love, laughter and giving to others. She was loved by everyone who met her and was the epitome of grace and beauty. Faye was born in Abbott, Texas on November 30, 1928, to William “Steve” and Della Mae (Snellings) Spruce. She grew up in Abbott before moving to Houston and graduating from San Jacinto High School in 1945.
Faye married Frank R Jackson in 1947 and resided in Houston, where they had two children, Craig Frank and Gaye Jackson. The family moved to the Spring Branch area in 1956 where she was a devoted Homemaker for her husband and children and was the last surviving charter member of Clay Road Baptist Church, which was founded in 1957.
She enjoyed sewing/designing and was an excellent seamstress. She also loved knitting, crocheting and embroidery, entertaining and visiting with her friends and family, gardening, and flower arranging. For over 20 years she repurposed the church floral arrangements to deliver them to, and comfort, members of the church who were ill.
Her family was so fortunate to have her in their lives and to share her for so many years. She was Mom/Mother to Craig and Gaye, Gammie to Craig's children and grandchildren, and Grandmommie to Jackson. She was Faye to her friends, and Mrs. Jackson to her children's friends while they were growing up. Mr. & Mrs. Jackson’s house was a congregating place for her children's friends as they were growing up. All were welcome into their home with open arms. In her later years, everyone called her Ms Faye.
Faye is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Frank; her parents, Steve and Della Spruce; her sister Doris Freeman and her brother and sister-in-law Steve & Nita Spruce, Jr. She is survived by her children Craig & Terry Jackson and Gaye Jackson; her Grandchildren Becca Jackson, Taylor Garcia (Jose Manuel), Forrest C. Jackson and Jackson C. Price; her great-grandchildren, Cameron, Charlotte and Molly Edge; and her beloved nieces Cynthia Spruce Thorton & Stephanie Spruce Powell and their families.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage her loved ones to please make a charitable donation to Scottish Rite for Children Hospital in Dallas, TX (http://community.tsrhc.org/donate)
She will be forever loved, forever remembered, forever missed and forever young.
A funeral service for Faye will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in the Oaks Mausoleum, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
