Esperanza V. Trevino

Esperanza “Hope” (Velasquez) Trevino, 73, affectionately known as “Dodie”, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Dodie was a native Houstonian born on June 18, 1949. She was the sixth of six children. Dodie is a graduate of San Jacinto High School, Class of 1967. On July 25, 1970, Dodie married Edmund D. Trevino Jr. She worked for 34 wonderful years at Southwestern Bell before retiring in 2004. Dodie was a dedicated daughter, loving sister, honorable wife, nurturing mother, doting aunt and an honest friend.

She is preceded in death by her parents David and Luisa (Castillo) Velasquez; sister, Juanita Pantoja; brother, Simon C. Velasquez Sr.; nieces, Diana and Baby Ofelia Pantoja and nephew/godson, Simon M. Velasquez, Jr.

Dodie is survived by her husband of 52 years, Edmund D. Trevino Jr.; her children, Karen Renee and Edmund III and two adoring grandsons, Brandon Edmundo and Hernando Nicolas Salgado. Also left to cherish her memory are her devoted sisters; Ofelia Martinez, Teresa Pineda and Mary (Emilio) dela Garza, as well as, numerous nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces that she held dear to her heart.

Visitation will begin at 5 pm on Sunday, February 5th, with Rosary at 7 pm at Forest Park Lawndale-Grand Chapel, 6900 Lawndale Ave. Dodie was an active parishioner at St. Augustine Catholic Church. It is only befitting that her funeral mass be hosted at her home church that she so loved. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday, February 6th, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 5438 Laurel Creek Way. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
