Eric “Sean” Wayne King
December 18, 1971-February 15, 2020
Eric, who was known to his family and close friends, as “Sean” was born to Frankie King and James T. Modkins Jr. on December 18, 1971 in Houston, Texas.
As a young child, Eric was very inquisitive and knew at an early age what he wanted to become and accomplish. He attended school in the Houston Independent School District and became a great athlete in High School as a football player and track star. Eric was a multi-talented young man who loved God and made his first debut in the church choir leading a song entitled “God said it and I believe it”! He graduated from Waltrip High School in 1991 and after attending Navarro Jr. College and Texas A&M Kingsville, he married his high school sweetheart Cassandra Christine Mitchell. They were the proud parents of two daughters Erica and Calandria King and two sons Keshon and D’Eriq King who were the joys of his life. As a dedicated husband and father there was nothing he would not do for them.
He poured into the lives of many people, both young and old. Whether on the football field, in business ventures or just life in general, he was a mentor to many. His remarkable coaching skills landed him opportunities in the coaching field, where he would spend countless hours training as many as were willing to learn. He spent time coaching at King Football Academy Team Texas Elite, the Oaks Dads’ Club Cardinals, Oaks Dads’ Club Cowboys, Northwest Panthers, The Renegades, Cy-Fair Longhorns, BME, St. Pius High School and Westbury Christian School to name a few.
Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents: Charlie and Josie Biggurs, and Father-in-law Gilbert Lee Mitchell.
He leaves to cherish his life, his mother Frankie King, father James T. Modkins Jr. (Margie), grandparents James T. and Emma L. Modkins Sr. His loving and devoted wife Cassandra Christine King, four children Erica (Anthony), Calandria, Keshon, and D’Eriq. Two grandsons, Nolan King Junious and Jeffrey Leotis Homes III, who brought him so much joy as he looked forward to the day he would be called Pawpaw. His Mother-in-Love Mary Mitchell, four brothers Derrick “Jo Jo” King (Tamela), Vaughn King, James T. Modkins III, Brandon T. Modkins Sr. (Ashley), one sister Shatorya A. Modkins and his favorite uncle/brother Charlie Biggurs known as “Uncle Chris”. He also leaves eight aunts, four uncles and one Great Uncle Nora Brenham (Billie) who all loved him dearly. Seven nephews, six nieces and two Godchildren Josiah Cephus and Syurri Bolden who will forever cherish him. Many memories and special times will be held dear by his first cousins, who were all as close to him as brothers and sisters and shared a bond that could never be broken.
As Eric’s earthly journey ended and his Heavenly home was ready for him, his memory will continue to be cherished by his close friends who he shared many of life’s moments with and held deep in his heart, his entire family, friends, loved ones and many acquaintances, remembering this quote, “Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal”!
