Emily Outley

In the city of Carencro, Louisiana on July 7, 1945, a vibrant, energetic, loving, and caring child, Emily Marie Carter, the third child of twelve children born to Joseph and Alberta Carter, entered this life. Fondly called by everyone, “Nanny” - a very appropriate name because, being the oldest girl, she left school in the 6th grade to assist in raising her siblings. This experience gave her great joy and led to one of the most fulfilling aspects of her life - serving others.

The marriage to husband, William Prejean Sr. produced three children, Willow Robinson, Willio Lee Prejean and William Prejean Jr. After moving to Houston in 1967 and working at Foley’s downtown for ten years, she met and married Robert Outley and had daughter, Jessie Lorraine. They shared 43 beautiful years together; she loved and cared for him until he passed away in 2019. Emily Marie worked in Aldine’s food service for over 25 years and loved cooking, baking tea cakes, pies, and an infamous pound cake everyone loved. Additionally, she owned a cleaning service business for 15 years. Emily had a passion for ironing and could spend hours ironing items, which she always said was her special time to reflect, meditate, and talk with God.

A breast cancer survivor of 38 years, Emily Marie attended “Church by Christ Jesus” under (Bishop Turner) and served as a missionary for over 35 years. She loved visiting the sick, cooking, cleaning, and sharing the good word of God. Any opportunity to help someone in need, even just as an ear to listen or hand to hold, Emily was there. Fond memories of joyful moments include: her love for wearing her favorite perfumes: Estee Lauder & Red Door, thrift shopping, going to the casino, and most of all, spending time with her family, especially her eight grandchildren whom she loved and adored.

Emily Marie Outley peacefully went Home, on December 11, 2024. Her loving memories will forever be cherished by her children: daughters, Willow Robinson (Johnnie), Jessie Mayes (Richard), Willio Lee Prejean, step-daughter Gladys Washington Duncan (John), and son William A. Prejean, Jr.; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Davis (Calvin), Arthur Carter Sr. (Maudetta), Carol Carter (Lena), Madeline Sion (Gilbert), AnnaBell Gary (Michael), Earline, Carter (Gerald), Marlene Savoy (Ricky), Lucille Carter and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, cousins, and friends.

Emily Marie Outley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Outley; parents, Joseph and Alberta Carter; brothers, George Carter (Shirley), Calton Carter (Dorothy), Wilbert Carter, nephews Sir George Carter and Arthur Carter, Jr.; and niece Rachel Tolliver.

A visitation for Emily will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Paradise Funeral Home Chapel, located at 10401 W. Montgomery Rd. The funeral service will immediately follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00pm. The committal will be private.
