Eluterio was born to Gabino and Bentura Perez on May 26, 1932, in Wharton, Texas. In 1952, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. In 1954 he married the love of his life, Julia Chagoya. Upon his honorable discharge, Eluterio and Julia started and raised their family in Houston’s East End.
Eluterio worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years. His impeccable work ethic and humble beginnings were a driving force in providing a better life for his family.
Playing the guitar was his greatest passion. He proudly played the guitar at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for over 40 years. His musical talent and love for music has been imprinted in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Eluterio was passionate about showing kindness to others. He would often volunteer, donate to various organizations, and help others in need. Eluterio’s kindness, generosity, and sense of humor were known by all who interacted with him. Most importantly, it was his unwavering faith and love of family that will continue to be his legacy.
Eluterio is preceded in death by his grandmother, Bernadina Rios, his parents, Gabino and Bentura, his brothers, David, Louis, Felix, his sisters Mary Martinez, Juanita Diaz, and his beloved son, Andrew.
Eluterio is survived by his wife of 69 years, Julia, his sister, Lupe Moreno, his seven children, Evelyn Maldonado (Johnny), Stella Perez, Eluterio Perez Jr. (RoseMary), Julia Elizondo (Rudy), Rachel Sanchez (Cesar), Rebecca Rangel (David), Alex Perez (Elaine), 14 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 23, 2023, 5:00 pm-9:00 pm, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Houston. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
