She had a full life, living to the age of 95, and was the last surviving sibling. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, John Steven Kubis, Sr., daughter Diana Marie Morales, parents, John and Elizabeth (Kralick) Hronec, brothers Michael Simonov and George Hronec, sisters Mary Hindra and Anna Hronec, son-in-law Michael Ferry, and grandson-in-law Brian Coyle.
At the age of 16, Betty worked at Bloomingdales in New York City and as a young adult she worked at the NYU Alumni Office. She was educated in New York City, receiving an Accounting Award from Julia Richman High School. She later attended Pace University where she was the only woman in her accounting class. In 1948, Betty and John were united in Holy Matrimony and started their family in New York City. In 1955, they then moved to West Nyack, NY where they raised their seven children. In 1982, they relocated to Houston, Texas. Betty had a thriving career where she worked as a Controller in the Oilfield industry, retiring at 62. Retirement did not stop her, she worked part-time at Big H Auto Auction until she was 85.
Betty’s positive attitude and giving nature filled her life with loving, caring friends. She was a long-time member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community where she was involved in many ministries. She was involved in the Keenager Senior Group, where she served a few terms as president and other offices. She was also a member of the pastoral council at one time and a delegate to the Houston Senior Senate. Her greatest enjoyments in life with family and friends included cruises, casinos, day trips, line dancing, Pokeno, and her favorite thing of all to dance with her husband.
Betty was devoted to her husband, seven children and all her family. Those left to cherish the memory of Betty are her children: son-in law, Daniel Morales of Celebration, FL; Kathryn Ferry of Washingtonville, NY; John Steven Kubis, Jr. of Galveston, TX; Beth Ann Valentine and husband Scott of Houston, TX; Gregory Kubis and wife Rosann of Rialto, CA; Michael Kubis and wife Connie of Cypress, TX; and Lisa Marie Kubis of Tomball, TX. Her legacy also lives on in her 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. They always knew that on their birthday they would get a call from her where she would sing “Happy Birthday” to them, some even saved her voicemails. Her strength, boundless love, and energy will live on in them forever. Her spiritual faith and the love of her family were held so deeply within her heart. She was a loving, caring force of nature with a cheerful outlook and trust in God which was contagious. She would always say “things will work out”. She had an unfailing faith in God and a strong devotion to Our Mother, Mary.
