Elaine Hale

Elaine Hale, age 81, passed away on the 19th of August 2011 after a lengthy illness. She leaves behind her son Stephen Hale and grandson Brandon Hale. She is also survived by her sisters, Bea Arwady, Rose Lucksinger, and Shirley Swearer. Her husband Glen Hale, son Gerald Hale, parents, George and Mary Hanania, sisters Alice Guy, Lillian Hyak, and Catherine Woody all preceded her in death.

Education played an important role in her life. She was a diligent student and excelled in school. She graduated from Jefferson Davis High School as Valedictorian of her class and then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Houston. She went on to teach middle school in the Houston Independent School District. During this time she taught English and coached spelling bee participants. Elaine loved children and her family and made them her priority. She sacrificed numerous career opportunities in order to support and look after her family.

Elaine joined St Michael's/Hope Episcopal Church in 1978. At one time she ran the church programs that donated food baskets and provided alter flowers. While working in the St. Clare's guild ministry she visited sick parishioners and church members in nursing facilities. Additionally, she belonged to a club that did knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. This group of ladies would sell the items they made at craft shows and garage sales and then donate the money to the church. Her grandson, Brandon Hale, was baptized at Hope Episcopal Church in 1990.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o'clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 23rd of August, in the Parlor of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

A funeral service is to be conducted on at two o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 24th of August, at Hope Episcopal Church, 1613 West 43rd Street in Houston, where the Rev. Bobbie Knowles will officiate. Prior to the funeral service, during the one o'clock hour, the family will receive friends at the church.

A committal service is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Hollywood Cemetery.
