Egie Osamwonuyi Ighile

On August 18th, 1978, Egie Osamwonuyi Ighile was born in London, England to Dr. Bashir and Pst. Amen Ighile. Egie’s brilliant and inquisitive nature was present from an early age through his passion for books. This scholarly voracity resulted in Egie placing second in the nation in the Common Entrance Examinations administered to all Nigerian students transitioning from primary to secondary school. On the strength of this performance, he matriculated into the prestigious King’s College in Lagos, Nigeria. Afterwards, he studied art and architecture at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania before transferring to the University of Houston.

An artist and an intellectual at heart, Egie had an impressive command of the English language, impeccable taste in art, music, and design, as well as deep concern for the state of the world and his fellow man. He published the Objectif Magazine a Houston art and social critic circulation. He also hosted an accompanying radio show, Radio Objectif, on KPFT 90.1. Egie and his partners formed Bauplan, an art consulting and brokering firm, whose portfolio includes consulting on the POST Houston hub. Through out his life, Egie channeled his creativity into an eclectic range of projects too numerous to list.

Those who encountered Egie would have known him as a reserved, honest, and respectful man. However, his close friends and family knew him as a man with a deep concern for justice and an insatiable desire for knowledge and understanding. You will not find many people who would read Webster’s dictionary or study abstract mathematics as a leisure activity. You also will not find many people would think as sincerely about the plight of humanity across the world.

Gone from us too soon with a myriad of works still yet to be revealed, Egie is survived by his parents; his sister, Adesuwa Okoye; and his brothers, Efosa and Osagie Ighile.
