Dorothy Leona Fichtner, born September 28, 1924, in Dallas, Texas, was the fourth child of Lottie and Leonard Fitchner. Early life was difficult for the family of six as they moved around the state in search of work. They settled in northwest Houston where they attended a small Baptist church. Dorothy believed the Gospel of Jesus Christ and knew He was her Lord and Savior. She graduated from Aldine High School in 1943. As a young teenager while at church, she met a very handsome young man, Wayne Moore. He enlisted in the Navy but their romance continued to blossom. In December 1944 he returned home for a brief leave, and on January 9, 1945, Dorothy married her one true love at her parents' home. The young couple lived in Memphis, Tennessee, for several months. December 1946, their family began with the birth of their son, Alan Lynn, and one year later their daughter, Janice Elaine, completed the family. God continued to bless Dorothy and Wayne with 64 devoted years together. They always trusted the Lord to guide them, studying the Bible regularly for His direction. During their journey they had a very loving family and many close friends with whom they enjoyed hunting, traveling, card games and, especially, playing 42. Dorothy would want her life to be remembered as a testimony to her Lord, who carried her from meager beginnings for 92 years and 7 months with His gracious love and generous blessings.
Thank you, Lord, for our precious Mother. We will love her, honor her and remember her all the days of our lives.
