Dorothy was the middle of three girls. She graduated from Stephen F Austin in 1959. After graduating, she went on to marry Jeff Chambers and have two children who she adored very much, Jeffery and Kimberly. The two moved their family to Conroe, TX in 1968. Dorothy worked at Texaco Oil and Schlumburger for many years, then eventually went on to run the family’s horse racing business. Later in life, Dorothy married Dan Fortenberry. The two continued to live next to their children’s families in Conroe, TX, where she stayed for the rest of her days. Dorothy’s greatest joy in life was her role as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was highly devoted to her faith and served as a Eucharistic minister and Catholic daughter at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church. Dorothy was a wonderful teacher of life. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to stay in church and love God and others with every fiber of their being. Many would describe Dorothy as witty, independent, supportive, loving, and passionate. She lived life to it’s full potential, always remembering to put God and family first. Dorothy cherished time spent with her family, and never missed an opportunity to be with them. Her generosity with her time, energy, and advice provided invaluable support to a remarkable number of people. She was so loved and will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Her legacy will undoubtedly live through them.
