Donna Anne (Boorse) Platt of Houston, Texas passed away on September 29, 2022. Donna was born on April 18, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Marie Reefer Boorse and Herbert Custer Boorse. She was the second of three sisters having grown up on the sprawling Spring Dell Farm in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania - where her father owned and trained thoroughbred race horses.
Donna was an intelligent, talented and stunningly beautiful woman who enjoyed life to its fullest. She had an artistic flare that permeated every aspect of life and had a passion for sports cars. She was a teacher by both nature and profession, a nurturing, supportive and affectionate mother, a woman of deep faith, a lover of all living creatures and a true friend. Donna cared deeply for others and insisted everyone be treated with kindness.
In her youth, Donna was a decorated Girl Scout, a volunteer Candy Striper, and a beauty pageant winner. Donna attended West Chester University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She was extremely well-liked and worked as a Chatterbox Girl during the summer at the iconic Chatterbox Restaurant in Ocean City, New Jersey. She was working towards her Master’s degree at West Chester when she met and married John David Platt in 1970.
The family moved to Houston, Texas in 1975 and Donna was a wonderful and engaged mother as well as community volunteer. In the 1990s, Donna founded Eagle’s Wings at St. Michael Catholic Church - a support group for divorced, widowed and separated singles. She facilitated the program for over a decade prior to her return to teaching elementary school at St. Theresa Catholic School in Houston. Ms. Platt was called to this work, loved her students and influenced the lives of many.
Throughout her life, Donna volunteered tirelessly with rescue efforts to help orphaned and injured animals find sanctuary. She continued her animal rescue work through 2017 - saving hundreds of cats and dogs. Donna’s legacy lives on as her children and grandchildren continue to help animals in need.
Donna was preceded in death by her dear mother, her father and her glamourous older sister, Rosemarie Anne Boorse of Wynnewood, PA. Donna is survived by her sister, June Geraldine Cusimano of Ambler, PA, her four children: Donna Marie Platt and Hilary Anne Platt of Houston, TX, Stephen Benjamin Platt of Plano, TX and Kimberly Anne Platt of Bowling Green, KY; grandchildren: her beloved Zoe Marie Cecilia Childers (Matthew), Aadon Joseph, Stephen Benjamin Jr. and great grand twins: David Malcolm and Michael Evan.
