My sincerest sympathies and heartfelt condolences go out to the family and all the employees at TelWink. I started going to the diner around 77-78 with mom and dad. I always, still to this day, enjoy the liver& onions he perfected. And his gigantic biscuits and gravy are my favorite breakfast. You were a true pioneer Mr Jimmy and proud to have met you many times and shaken your hand. Thanks for all your hard work.  Rest In Peace, sir

Jimmy the Greek was well known for sitting at the end of the countertop. His wife Peggy use to give us Candy canes at Christmas time, and blow her whistle and make everyone sing Jingle Bells. Then Jimmy would come flying out of the office and yell at her, everyone would laugh so hard! R.I.P. Jimmy the Greek! You will be missed dearly! 

I am indeed saddened to hear of the untimely passing of my longtime friend, Jimmy Bokos. I am no longer living in Houston, and will not be able to attend his funeral, however I would like to extend my condolences his family, as well as his extended family, the longtime employees of the Tel-Wink Grill. 

When Jimmy sold Frank's Grill and moved to Florida by way of Chicago (or was it Chicago by way of Florida), he returned to Houston and acquired an interest in Omega Restaurant, which was previously Kip's Big Boy on the Gulf Freeway, just north of Monroe. He eventually divested from Omega, and purchased Tel-Wink, turning the restaurant around to become the hugely-successful diner it is today. Except for a few weeks spent in Greece, he was there every day Tel-Wink was open for business. 

When he opened Tel-Wink, many of his employees from Frank's Grill followed him there. Some have been with him for decades, including the manager, Karen. I don't think the Tel-Wink formula of success would have become a reality if not for them.

I first was introduced to Jimmy by my Dad at Frank's Grill in the 1970s. I was a newly-minted teenager then. Now I am pushing 60. That shows you how far Jimmy and I go back. He was like a father to me, and I in fact referred to him often as such.

My dad passed earlier this year and the first place my hubby took me to was Tel Wink. This was my dad's breakfast spot for years as I know many who have a similar story. But Mr. Jimmy at the register next to the mints was my fav memory. He'd always let me take an extra.  To me that was huge as a kid being the sign said take one. Lol I wish I could remember the conversations him and my dad had.. they were random .. sometime long .. most times back and forth in between him greeting other regulars. It's bittersweet to now know he's now in the presence of our Savior along side my dad... And mom who also loved her biscuit and gravy. May you rest in paradise Mr. Jimmy.

Jimmy will be missed by the southeast Houston community. The Tel Wink has been a family tradition for my family. My dad ate breakfast there every morning when he lived in Houston it was like his home away from home. Jimmy’s chair at the bar should be a memorial to him. He will be missed.

Tel-Wink was a well known place to eat. All the neighbors and surrounding areas knew TW was the place to go. Friends, family, gossip, hookups, etc. I'll never forget him!!  🙏

We often went to Tel-Wink whenever we were in high school.  Very good memories.  My sympathy and condolences go to his family.  May he Rest In Peace.
