Dennis Joseph Schilling of Houston, Texas died on July 17, 2014 at age 68 following a brief illness. Dennis was a long-time member and faithful supporter of Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church (MCC), where he served as a sacristan. In addition he was a loyal member of the Excel in Faithfulness team for over 15 years. Prior to retiring from the work force in 2012, Dennis worked at Randall’s Grocery for approximately twenty years and another ten years for Standard Parking.
Dennis was born on October 8, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to James Leo Schilling and Isabel Lemitz Schilling. He graduated from St. Pius XI High School in Milwaukee and later moved to Houston. He is survived by his twin sister, Phyllis Schilling Wolf, brother-in-law, Michael Wolf, nephews Kevin (Amy Dickey Wolf), Timothy, and Terry Wolf, grand-niece Crystal Wolf, grand-nephew Jacob Wolf, and great grand-nephew Jonah Bibas; sister Kathleen Schilling Schmidt, brother-in-law, Donald Schmidt, nephew Craig Schmidt and niece Christine Schmidt. In addition to his birth family, Dennis collected a host of friends who became his family of choice, including Sheryl Parrish, Melissa Rodgers, Maria Urrutia, Rev. Vickey Gibbs, and Veronica Franklin, along with the Excel of Faithfulness team, and the members and friends of Resurrection MCC.
A memorial service will be held at Resurrection MCC, 2025 W. 11th St. in Houston on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his honor may be made to the American Cancer Society.
