Our beloved DeAndre' Liggins was born on June 12, 1993 in Milwaukee, WI to Sharon Liggins and Wendell Cowart, Sr. Later relocating to Gary, IN. DeAndre' was preceded in death by his biological mother and father; brother, Wendell, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Ethel and Columbus Liggins and paternal grandparents Lee and Arlena Cowart. He was adopted at the tender age of 5 months by his mother's twin (Mary) who became known as his precious and loving mother. DeAndre' attended Gary Public Schools. He accepted Christ at the early age of 11and was baptized by Pastor Anthony Mayo and was a member at River of Life Ministries. DeAndre' and his family relocated to Houston, Texas in July 2006, he became a member of Harvest Time Church where he experienced a second baptism. He attended Arnold and Spillane Middle Schools; a 2012 graduate of Cypress Ranch High School. His athletic career began at the age of five playing defensive tackle for the "Gary Steelers" Pop Warner football and catcher for Brunswick Little League. "Dre" then bought his talents to Houston where he played football, basketball and ran track for Arnold and Spillane Middle Schools. He then played varsity football, varsity basketball and participated in track and field at Cy-Ranch, a TRUE PHONOMENAL ATHLETE" who excelled in all three sports. While in high school, he also sung in the concert choir. Upon graduation, he received a track and field scholarship from Texas State University and attended Prairie View University. While continuing his education, "Dre" never lost his passion for music. He began a new venture as an aspiring "rap artist". Through life's challenges DeAndre' never forgot his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; on June 22, 2014 he rededicated his life to Christ. On Wednesday, July 3, 2014, DeAndre' made his transition to be with his Heavenly Father. "We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord." Gone but never will be forgotten; DeAndre leaves to cherish his precious memories to his loving mother and caring stepfather Mary (Danny) Grant; his siblings: Wendy Cowart; Darren Davis, Jr., Tremaine Riley; Andrea Owens; Sharonda (Gary) Wells and Shaunice Lowe; "special aunt" Ann Wheatley; "special uncle" Jerry Wheatley, a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
