Reverend David Lee Sutton Sr., son of Ross Blanton Sutton and Audra Virgil Teer, and husband of Eleanor Shuttlesworth Sutton, was born November 30, 1929, at their home in Houston, TX. He died March 17, 2022, in Houston. His family included one sister, Ina, and three brothers: Leonard, James, and Raymond. They were members of Park Memorial Baptist Church where he met and married Eleanor as well as surrendered himself and his family to the ministry.
Their life together produced two children David Jr. and Felicia Jane. He served as pastor for many churches including: First Baptist Seabrook, Shady Oaks Baptist Lake Jackson, Baptist Temple Bay City, First Baptist Richwood, and Moody Memorial Baptist Galveston.
Retiring from full-time ministry, he continued serving in ministry at First Baptist Jacinto City, Gethsemane Baptist Houston, Queens Road Baptist Pasadena, and Riverview Baptist Houston. David and Eleanor worked together in the window treatment fabrication business, Sutton’s Cornice. They made many wonderful friends through the years and the family would like to thank all of you for your love and support. His purpose and goal in life was to be an example of God’s love to all of those who came in contact with him.
David Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister, brothers and daughter in law Rhonda Sutton. He is survived by their children, David Sutton and Felicia and Larry Riley, and grandchildren: Allison Sutton, Mark and Karla Riley, Kristina and John Gunn, Jessica and Ben Blair, and Keith and Justi Riley. Great grandchildren surviving him are: Lindy, Reese, Noah and Asher Riley; Madison, Mackenlie, and Alex Gunn; Ethan, Eleanor, James and Samuel Blair; and Connor Riley. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Patsy Jones, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, TX. The funeral will be at 11:00, with graveside service following. There will also be a light lunch provided afterward at the funeral home.
