David was born in Corsicana Texas on the 28th of December 1932, to Fred Hernandez and Lynette Milam. David’s maternal grandfather, Len Ben Milam, raised him and changed his last name to Milam. David moved to Houston while still in his teens and lived with his Mother. He worked for several paint contractors while finishing apprentice school. He then worked for Tenneco for several years until he decided to start his own business in 1969. David formed several businesses throughout the years: Milam & Co. Painting, Cook & Milam, Service Corp., Foreman & Milam Catastrophe Mgmt., South Coast Construction, Standard Glass Co., and David & Patrick Reproduction.
When David wasn’t working he enjoyed his ranch in Liberty with all his family and many friends for all night poker games, fishing, four wheeling, and horseback riding. This was where he loved to be more than any other place.
David is survived by his wife of 53 years Marie Vance Milam; daughter, Deborah Ann Scraper and husband, Roan; son, David Milam Jr. and wife, Cassie; daughter, Sherry Lynn Clepper and husband, Julian; and son, Anthony Len Milam and wife, Stephanie.
Grandchildren: Shawna Anna Marie Berger, Erica Icie Ramirez and husband, Arthur, Marcus Milam Scraper, David Kelton Milam 3rd , Melissa Marie Mooring and husband, Charles, Jason Ellioutt Reagan, Dawn Michelle Abke and husband Josh, Richard Kelton Rucker, Ashley Milam Remedios and husband, Barrett, Megan Renee Milam and Hunter Len Milam.
Great Grandchildren: Ryan Avery Riley, Taylor Ann Marie Riley, Jake James Vest, Brandt Cole Dixon Berger, Arthur Angel Ramirez, Andreas Roan Ramirez, Alexander Abel Ramirez, Elliana Rose Ramirez, Emma Marie Catherine Ramirez, Antonio Leonidas Ramirez, Ayden David Mooring, Jillian Marie Mooring, Ella Rae Mooring, Christopher Bailey Garner, Lexie Layne Abke, Layla Jean Milam, Zachary Kutach and Brooks Len Remedios.
Great Great Grandchildren: Madelyn Marie Maughan.
David is also survived by his cousin that was like a sister to him Carolyn French and husband Roy, their 2 daughters, Sherry Mc Whorter and husband, Alton, and daughter Shelley Neal.
The family wishes to thank Patrick Fisher for his close friendship and concern for their father and husband. Also all of the doctors, home health care providers, Gentiva Hospice of Beaumont and LCEMS for their excellent response and care during the last weeks of his life.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from two until four o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 13th of November, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The funeral service will be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 14th of November in the Jasek Chapel at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where Rev. Anthony Hines will officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
The family will gather for a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston at a later date.
