David Bruce Lemley (63) passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 after a long illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Sharine (Shari) Karr Lemley, and three sons, David of Houston, Matthew of Edmond, OK, Jonathan of Houston. and his most precious grandsons, Zephyr and Jack; one brother, Wm. Delbert Lemley, Rancho Cordova, Ca. and a very large extended family of in-laws and friends.
David was born on Sept 16, 1948 in Groom, Carson County TX to Ona and Dee Delbert Lemley who both preceded him in death. A graduate of White Deer HS in White Deer Texas, David moved to Houston in 1967 and attended the University of Houston. He served his country from 1969 to 1975 as SSGT with the 147th Camron unit of the TexANG and reserve of the Air Force at Ellington Air Force Base.
As his sons’ grew, David actively volunteered as baseball coach, SBISD campus advisory team member, Habitat for Humanity volunteer, Greater Wrenwood Civic Association committee member, American Red Cross CPR and First Aid instructor, and wherever he could help. This help led to his work of twenty-five years plus with the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts, serving in numerous capacities, from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts, and at all volunteer levels, local, district, council and national, culminating in receiving one of the first Cub Scout Wood Badge awards.
David was employed by Transcontinental Gas as a gas controller for 30 years prior to taking long-term medical leave in 2007. Family will receive friends on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 5:00 – 8:00pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX.
