David Wayne Hicks was born to the union of Cornelius and Lois Hicks on March 2, 1956, and was the 10th child of 13 children. He was born on the border of Acuna Mexico Del Rio, TX. He was affectionately called "Pedi." David was educated in the Del Rio School Systems. He resided in Del Rio Texas until the age of eighteen. David then moved to San Antonio, TX where he began working for Southern Pacific Railroad. In 1981, he fathered a son, Anthony David Hicks. David later moved to Orange, TX. In 1984 his journey began with his soul mate and the love of his life Connie Collins. They were united in holy matrimony on December 19, 1987 and were married for 24 years. During this time he graciously accepted the role of "father" to Jamiesia, James and Alexis Guillory. In 1993, David decided to move his family to Tacoma, WA. where they resided for ten years. David was a strong disciplinarian for his children and always stressed the importance of hard work, education, and positive moral values. After the children graduated from high school and began their journey as adults, Connie and David moved back to the city of Houston, Texas, where he worked as an over the road truck driver until he became ill in 2012. David was known for his "lecturing skills", his "sense of humor" and his huge power with words, vivid narrations, and spins of story-telling. David became the neighborhood yard expert, for his expertise in keeping such a beautiful yard. His neighbors gave him yard of the month shortly before his demise, September 25, 2012. David accepted Christ as his personal savior and never complained during his transition from life to death. David was preceded in death by his father Cornelius Hicks, three brothers James, Anthony and Roland Hicks, his sister Glenda Hicks-Smith and a son James A. Guillory, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories and mourn his passing, his loving wife, Connie Renee Hicks, his mother Lois Hicks, one son, Anthony David Hicks, two daughters, Jamesia (James) Wilson, Alexis (Wayne) Mason, six brothers, Earl "Canoe" (Lena) Hicks, Norman "Chico" (Anna) Hicks, Vernon "Chino" Hicks, Kenneth "Ken" Hicks, Sidney "Lolly" Hicks, Mark Anthony (Sandy) Hicks, two sisters, Lois "Pansy" Brinkley, Lana "Nana" (Grip) Polite, two grandsons, Cortez Mason, and Anthony Donovan Hicks, two grand-daughters, Alleya Mae Hicks and Ayana Guillory and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
