He was born in Tehran, Iran on July 31, 1944. His father, Mahmoud, was a successful businessman, and his mother, Parvin, was a very kind mom who took care of Dariush and his younger brother, Mehrdad. Dariush lived in Iran until the age of 10 at which point he was sent to America for his schooling.
He attended the University of St. Paul in Minnesota and was the running back on the football team. His success at the collegiate level offered him the opportunity to play for the Minnesota Vikings.
Afterwards, at the age of 26, he moved back to Iran to pursue his business career and gained the sole representative rights of STP motor oil in Iran. Fate would introduce him to the love of his life, Mahnaz Ladjevardian, while water skiing near Tehran. Dariush and Mahnaz married, after a brief courtship, in September 1971 and had two beautiful kids, Tina and Ali. As his business career continued to flourish, he became the managing director of Iran Knitting company, a subsidiary of Behshar Industrial group.
Following the Iranian Islamic Revolution, Dariush immigrated to America in 1979 and became involved in many business ventures before founding Fresh Brew Coffee & Vending - growing it from the ground up to employ 130 people. He was always grateful to America for opening up her arms and welcoming him and his family and affording him the opportunity to start his life all over again.
Dariush always had a passion for sports. He instilled the same love of sports in his children, and was instrumental in the success of their athletic careers, encouraging them to work their hardest in every aspect of their lives. He loved watching the Texans and the Rockets and especially enjoyed taking his children to the games.
His appetite for life was infectious, and his energy brightened up any room that he entered. He truly relished playing poker with close friends, watching Dancing with the Stars and America’s Got Talent, and being surrounded by his loved ones.
Dariush’s paternal instincts extended beyond his own family and to the community at large where he was a strong pillar and a guiding force in many peoples’ lives. He had many positive attributes, but the part that stood out the most by far was his generosity and kindness. He knew no bounds. He truly was the kind of guy who you wanted next to you in a foxhole or have your back in life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mahnaz, his daughter, Tina, his son, Ali, his son-in-law, Troy, his future daughter-in-law, Niousha, his two grandchildren, Natalia and Alec, his mother, Parvin, his brother, Mehrdad, his niece, Sophie, and his nephew, Kamyar.
A celebration of life service for Dariush will be held Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at The St. Regis Houston, 1919 Briar Oaks Lane, Houston, TX 77027-3408.
