Doris Madeline Coburn, 94, entered eternal rest on April 22, 2022 in Montgomery, Texas. She was born August 18, 1927 in Houston, Texas. Madeline enjoyed attending church activities, gardening, reading, and putting together puzzles. She also loved spending time with her family, sewing, and quilting; and she was a wicked domino player!
Madeline and her husband, Robert, operated a family grocery store in the North Houston area for many years. The family moved to Oak Ridge North in Spring, TX, in the late 60s, but Robert and Madeline continued to operate the family business, commuting back and forth to Houston for several years before Robert retired and the business was sold. Madeline subsequently went to work for a local bank in the Oak Ridge North area, and after that she worked for ExxonMobil for 10 years as a support staff geological assistant, retiring at the age of 70. She was proud of her contributions to ExxonMobil’s exploration success and she received many accolades from the company. As far as we know, she never missed a day of work in her 10 years there.
Madeline was an excellent cook, and enjoyed preparing large meals for her family. She was constantly extending hospitality to her friends and neighbors; and saw it as her ministry to frequently write notes and send cards to those who were ill or home-bound. In her heyday, she rarely forgot a birthday.
Madeline is preceded in death by her husband: Robert Coburn; sister: Joyce Gay; and parents Sterling and Dorothy Gardner. Left to cherish her loving memory are sister: Shirley Jean (Gardner) King of Ojai, CA; brother Sterling Barney Gardner and wife Terri of Hearn, TX; daughter: Carol Ann (Coburn) Lesikar and husband Elton of Montgomery, TX; sons: Timothy Craig Coburn and wife Nancy, of Tulsa, OK, and Bradley Wayne Coburn and wife Julie, of Houston, TX; Seven grandchildren; Six great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be sorely missed by family and friends alike.
