Clarence Johnson Jr.

Clarence Johnson Jr. was born January 9, 1939, to Clarence Johnson Sr. and Evelyn Neal in Yorktown, Texas. He attended school in Beeville, Texas and graduated from Beeville High School. He went into the US Air Force right after High School. He was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. He later moved to Houston, Texas where he resided until his death. Clarence retired from Texaco as an accountant. He was a Silver Life Member, a former Treasurer, Executive Committee and Act-So Committee Member of the NAACP Houston, Texas Branch, Unit #6183, Over 40 years he served on the NAACP Houston Branch Act-So Committee. Clarence served as the Act-So Committee CoChair under Mrs. Fran Gentry from the 1980s through the 1990s. He served under the late Attorney Andrea Arceneaux from the 1990s through January 15, 2015. He also served under Mrs. Avelina Holmes from January 15, 2015 – November 15, 2021.

On behalf of the NAACP Houston Branch Act-So Committee Clarence was loved and will truly be missed.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Odessa Johnson, sister Mary Johnson Sanders, brother Nathaniel Johnson, and sister Dorothye Harrison.

Clarence leaves to cherish in his memory brothers Lawrence Bookman Jr. of Houston, Texas, Rufus Johnson (Dorothy) of Kyle, Texas, Robert Johnson (Faye) and Carlton Johnson Sr. (Cynthia) of Victoria, Texas, Luther Johnson, Lucien Johnson (Linda), and Donald Johnson of Houston, Texas. Sisters Shirley Rogers (Elsworth) of San Antonio, Texas and Patricia Barnett of Victoria, Texas. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A visitation for Clarence will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Paradise Funeral Home, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A committal service will occur Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from 1:45 PM to 2:00 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088.
