Claire Jeanette Newbold, born January 13, 1949 in Washington D.C., died February 18, 2016 in Houston, Texas. Claire is survived by her brother Fred R. Newbold of Houston, Texas and her sister Claudia K. Newbold of Menlo Park, California. She was predeceased by her father Roy J. Newbold (1988), her mother Zoe S. Newbold (2003) and her brother, Frank L. Newbold (1982). She never married but always kept up her various nieces and nephews and their families, including Rene Hickey, Sheri Newbold, Cherie Youngling and Steve Newbold.
Claire grew up in Arlington, Virginia and lived there with her parents until she moved to assisted living facilities in Houston, TX in 2003. She completed Special Education at Wakefield High School in Arlington. After starting her work career at Hot Shoppes Restaurant she completed a 22 year career at the Patent Office in Arlington where she delivered mail.
Claire was an avid ballroom dancer and performed in exhibitions at the Dance Factory Studio in Arlington, where she took lessons for more than 10 years. She accompanied her parents on a number of trips including all around the United States including Hawaii and to Europe. Claire was a type 1 diabetic from age 9 and suffered from congestive heart failure in her later years (she had a triple by-pass in 2000). She was provided with a great personality for dealing with her life, and so she was able to relate readily and authentically with almost everyone she met.
Claire was always ready to celebrate any occasion. This worked especially well for her at the assisted living facilities where she lived in Houston, where she routinely not only participated but pushed the celebrations. Claire was an avid Bingo player and never missed an opportunity to play although she often needed some assistance because of limited hearing and eyesight.
Shortly after moving to Houston, Claire came forward and joined Second Baptist Church at Woodway. She often mentioned seeing Dr. Young on TV on Sundays, but appreciated attending special programs there, especially at Christmas. Claire and her family also depended much on the Prayer and Visitation Ministries at Second Baptist, especially during her later years.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am with the Funeral Service commencing at 11:00 am in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. The family will gather for a reception in the Events Room immediately following the service. Interment will take place at a later date in the family plot at Mt. Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia.
