A veteran of the United States Navy, Chris enlisted in the Navy in 1970. While in the Navy, Chris served combat duty in the Vietnam War.
After leaving the United States Navy in 1973, Christopher attended Temple University and Lincoln University, eventually using his technical skills as a computer hardware specialist to address the technical needs of various companies including Betz Laboratories, Enbridge, and McDermott Labs until his retirement in 2015.
Chris loved playing chess. His outstanding chess skills earned him numerous awards and accolades. He was also an excellent bowler, bowling a 298-game, multiple 300-games, and a number of 750+ series.
Chris had a passion for music. Known professionally as “Flash”, he never passed up an opportunity to perform. His musical talents included singing, writing music, playing various musical instruments (keyboard, saxophone, guitar), and teaching. At the time of his homegoing, Chris was a music teacher at Rockin Robin Music Lessons and the lead singer for the Key of Soul band.
Christopher met his loving wife, Mary Dyer Shockley, in September 1982 and they celebrated their love in marriage on August 11, 1984. Their union blessed them with one child, a son, Morgan Christopher Shockley (Jaylnn). Chris had one brother, Edgar Shockley (Theresa) of Philadelphia, PA, an uncle whom he loved like a brother, Myron Newry (Holly) of Alexandria, VA, brother-in-law Nathaniel Dyer (Delores), sister-in-law Patricia Dyer, nephews Brandon Shockley (Alison), Jamel Shockley, Nathan Dyer, Martin Dyer and Leroy Dyer and nieces Maya Dyer Davis (Carlton) and Terrilyn Dyer Jones (Talmadge).
Christopher was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Alice Shockley, and grandparents Charles Harrod and Mamie Newry-Harrod-Dennis.
