Charles “Charlie” William Plumb of Humble, Texas passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024 at the age of 91. He was born on June 2, 1933 in Laredo, Texas and grew up in San Antonio, Texas.
Charlie was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was an extremely driven and outgoing person. When he was a young boy, he worked different jobs including being a paper boy. He graduated high school and was ranked as a State High Diving Champion. He later served as an Olympic Trials High Diving Judge in The Woodlands, Texas. Charlie played softball and played many years in a bowling league, and later in his life won three US Senior Citizen’s Softball World Series Championships. As a young man, he was a musician in a small Texas band called the “Rough Necks”. As a novice musician, he met Willie Nelson and they became longtime friends. Charlie enlisted in the United States Navy and served on a destroyer ship, the USS McGinty, during the Korean Conflict. While in the Navy, he earned the title of “Boxing Champion” and was also proud to be one of the ship’s barbers. Charlie served as a Harris County Constable, a co-founder of the Sheldon Volunteer Fire Department and served as a longtime member of the American Legion in Sheldon, Texas. Charlie was an avid hunter, fisher, and golfer. Charlie’s most acclaimed success was his contribution to the oil and gas industry by working for George Mitchell Energy and going on to own his own refineries, Cougar Oil and Apache Oil. Charlie worked countless hours throughout his life influencing and writing oil and gas regulations. He later started a Texas Environmental company, to focus on the environmental cleanup aspects of the industry. Charlie will always be remembered for his hardworking attitude, his endless love of family and friends and especially his Texas barbequing.
Charlie is preceded in death by his father, Charles B. Plumb, mother, Francis K. Williams, his brother Mickey Plumb, his son Harold A. Plumb, and his beloved wife Joyce Plumb.
Charlie is survived by his sisters, Carolyn Duke and Barbara Marino. He is also survived by his children Mary Beth Hinton, Charles Plumb, Timothy Plumb and Tiffany Plumb. Charlie is survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Charlie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Services for Charlie at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home & Cemetery, at 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023 on Saturday, July 27, 2024. A private visitation with the family will be from 9:00am to 10:00, the public visitation from 10:00am to 11:00, the Chapel Services will be from 11:00 to 12:00 and the Cemetery Service from 12:00pm to 12:30.
