Charles David Allen was born in Houston, Texas on June 27, 1927 to Byron Cedric Allen and Thelma Daugherty Allen. He was a fourth generation Texan, and was very proud to call himself a true Texan.
He joined the Merchant Marines (now the Coast Guard) in 1945 after graduating from Reagan High School (Houston, Texas). He piloted gasoline tankers during the last months of World War II, traveling all over the world. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and became a pilot, stationed at Laredo Air Force Base (Laredo, Texas) and Lackland Air Force Base (San Antonio, Texas) during his service, receiving an honorable discharge in August of 1954. He graduated number one in his flight training class, and achieved several awards, commendations, and honorable mentions.
He then attended the University of Houston on the G.I. Bill, studying and receiving a degree in Geology.
Throughout his life he worked in many fields, but spent the majority of his career at Uvalde Rock Asphalt Company, where they manufactured floor tile. He started as a night supervisor and worked his way up to Vice President of Production/Plant Manager, responsible for all operations in the Houston, Texas manufacturing facility.
He married Ramona Faye Folsom on November 17, 1961 in Houston, Texas and remained faithfully married to her for 55 years, until his death. He was a member of the American Legion and a Life Member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
He was preceded in death by his younger sister Betty F. Calhoun, and older brother Byron S. Allen, MD.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ramona F. Allen (New Braunfels, Texas), eldest son, C. David Allen, Jr, daughter-in-law Lisa S. Allen, grandson Cameron D. Allen, and granddaughter Caroline N. Allen (Southlake, Texas), son Craig D. Allen and daughter-in-law Kelly J. Siedschlag (Santa Barbara, California), and brother Jimmy Allen (Laguna Niguel, California).
He was loved and will be cherished and missed by all who knew him.
