Charlene Johnson was a loving devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to all. Born to George Wesley Johnson and Leflee Randolph-Johnson on September 9, 1930 in Bessimer, Texas.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was one of the first members of the Bright Star MBC under the leadership of the late Rev. B.L. Smith, the late Rev. C.L. Campbell Sr., and now the Rev. C.L. Campbell Jr., which is now Bright Star Holy Ghost MBC.
She has been faithful until her health failed and was called to her new home over in Zion.
Charlene is preceded In death by; her parents, George and Leflee Johnson, Rev. B.L. and Corann Smith; husband, Rev. Rinza T. Johnson; six brothers, Andrew, Samuel, Clarence, Eddie, Glover and Everett Johnson; three sisters, Mable Franklin, Thedora Samuel and Fayette Ulmer.
She leaves to cherish her memories; her beloved daughters, Chloe Thompson, Virgil Gale Campell, Zenobia Smith (Rev. William Smith) and Vera Dawkins (John); son, Michael Johnson; eight grandchildren, Alyssa Randall (Phillip), Tametria Breed, Paige Johnson, Todd and Michael Campbell. Kimberly Smith. Zenera Booker and Jon D.Dawkins; ten great-grandchildren, DeAriel, Marcus, Deja Breed, Deon, Todd Jr., Alisaya, Jakobe, Jordan, Navaeh Campbell and Mikori Barrett; one great-great-grandchild Amoura Edmondson; one sister, Lucille Johnson (Oakland, CA); one goddaughter, Armanada Ard; favorite niece, Yolanda Avery (Alton); and a host nieces, nephews and dear friends who will really miss her.
A visitation for Charlene will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Bright Star Baptist Church, 2402 Calvin St, Houston, TX 77088. The funeral will immediately follow from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Bright Star Missionary Baptist, 2402 Calvin St, Houston, TX 77088. The committal will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:15 AM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
