Cecilia Jesus Gomez, age 76, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024. She was born in Topeka, Kansas, on June 4, 1948, to the late Elvira and Eustacio Perez. Cecilia was a graduate of Topeka High School in Topeka, Kansas. After graduation, she met and married the love of her life, Eliseo Gomez, Jr., in 1972. They enjoyed a loving marriage and true partnership for 36 years. They were blessed with two children, Joanna and Patrick.
Cecilia worked as a data entry clerk and bookkeeper for different companies in Houston and eventually retired to help care for her grandchildren and volunteer countless hours at her church. Cecilia was most proud to be a grandmother to her five grandchildren. She was an integral part of her grandchildren’s lives, helping to care for each of them after they were born until they started school, always willing to shuttle them to and from school, provide a special treat whenever possible, and offer love, guidance, and support whenever they needed grandma’s advice.
Cecilia was an active and devoted member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. She and her husband were original members of Christ the Redeemer. Before her husband’s death, together they were Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion, providing communion to nursing home patients and the homebound. Later, she helped create the prayer blanket ministry at Christ the Redeemer and became active with the church’s Spring Festival. The prayer blanket ministry was very special to her because she loved to sew and enjoyed spending time with other ministry members. Most importantly, it was Cecilia’s way of showing God’s love to those needing physical or emotional healing. She was always willing to find a prayer blanket for anyone quickly – friend or stranger – who needed prayer or support.
The annual Christ the Redeemer Spring Festival was an important endeavor for her. She helped lead the Flea Market and was already starting to work on it for the coming spring. She loved the challenge of collecting, organizing, and pricing the unique donated items, all in her desire to help her church. She recruited friends and family to help with the annual undertaking, and during the week leading up to the festival, she would volunteer from dawn until dusk.
Cecilia’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith and love for her church, family, and friends. In addition to her church commitments, she always had a very active calendar full of different activities, including meals with friends, classes at the local community centers, taking day trips to different parts of Texas, and being an active member of the Langham Creek Family YMCA. She built networks of friends everywhere she went. She never met a stranger.
Cecilia is preceded in death by her husband Eliseo Gomez, Jr. She is survived by her children Joanna Caudillo and husband Larry Caudillo, Patrick Gomez and wife Brandi Gomez, all of Houston; her brother Andrew Perez of Topeka, KS; grandchildren Anthony, Matthew and Isabella Caudillo and Dominic and Vincent Gomez, all of Houston; her brother-in-law Tom Gomez and his wife Janell Gomez of Pearland, TX; brother-in-law Steve Gomez and his wife Iris Gomez of Topeka, KS; her loving nephews David and his wife Kristin Perez, Michael Perez, T.C. Gomez and his wife Rebecca Gomez, niece Krista Gomez, all of Topeka, KS; Nicholas Gomez, Justin Gomez and his wife Jordan Gomez of Kansas City, KS, as well as all of her great nieces and nephews, other relatives and so many friends.
Cecilia is now reunited with her beloved husband, Eliseo Gomez, Jr., in eternal peace.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial donations be made to the prayer blanket ministry at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church or Cypress Assistance Ministries.
