Carol Jean Williams-Giles

Carol Jean Williams-Giles, known by her beloved family as “Mama,” “Maw Maw,” or “Carol,” was born a twin sibling on March 29, 1959. She was the 8th of 11 children to parents, Henry Jr and Jean Williams, and it was instantly clear that Carol would leave an indelible impression on everyone she met and knew. Ever since that blessed day, she could be heard coming and going before ever being seen.

Carol’s formative years were spent in Houston, Texas. She attended Bruce Elementary School and McReynolds Middle School and graduated from Forest Brook High School in 1977. Carol continued her education, attending Prairie View A&M University. Ultimately, she found her purpose and earned her certification as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), working as a home healthcare aide for the elderly and infirmed.

Carol accepted Christ at an early age and attended Anderson Memorial Church of God in Christ. She later joined Monument of Faith Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Superintendent James L. Ford, and was a faithful member until her health declined.

Carol was a loving mother and grandmother, who fiercely protected her children and adored her grandchildren. She welcomed the loving banter and spirited exchanges with her worthy partner, Erica (whom Carol affectionately referred to as “Ms. Kane”), enjoyed her daily smoothie prepared with love by Amie, shared many tender laughs with Jerry (caringly referred to as “Jey”), and proudly supported her grandchildren in everything from birthday parties to graduation to sporting events.

Carol met the love of her life, Robert Giles, and the two were joined as one in marriage on June 7, 1993. Carol quickly taught Robert the meaning of “happy wife, happy life” and they shared the next nearly 30 years together enjoying road trips, family gatherings, and a myriad of adventures.

Carol was vivacious and fun-loving. Her presence was larger than life and, when she entered the room, you knew you were in for a treat. In her leisure time, she enjoyed yelling at professional athletes through the television on game day, taking a regular trip to the casino, and dancing to all the tunes no matter the genre of music. She also loved family gatherings and holidays, and she relished in her “kitchen duty” doled out by “Mama” and her brother, Kenny. She was a true jewel to her family -- feisty, outgoing, and always unpredictable, yet caring, gentle, supportive, and kind. To her friends, she was loyal, outspoken, sassy, gregarious, and was the life and soul of any party. Her strength and courage were unmatched, tested and displayed in her enduring battle with her illness, and she responded with a mighty and brave fight. She embodied and epitomized the phrase “big things come in small packages.” Carol was always slight and petite, but her presence loomed large, bold, bright, and spectacular. Throughout her life, Carol won the hearts of many, and she will never be forgotten.

On the wings of an Angel, Carol made her peaceful transition to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

She is preceded in death by her father, Henry Williams, Jr.; mother, Jean Williams; sister, Pamela Williams Jefferson; brother, Jerome Williams; maternal grandparents, Douglas and Amie Hicks; paternal grandparents, Henry Williams, Sr., and Bobby and Pearl Martin; brothers-in-law, Arthur Giles and Glenn Giles; and sister-in-law, Olivia Kirk.

She leaves to cherish with precious and fond memories, her devoted husband, Robert Giles; two (2) loving daughters, Erica Williams and Amie Gordon; adoring son, Jerry Williams Anderson; beloved sister, Sharon Williams-Johnson; seven (7) brothers, Henry III (“Jake”) Williams, Craig Williams, Kenneth (“Kenny”) Williams, Harold (her forever-bonded twin) Williams, David Williams, Dwight Williams, and Darryle Williams; four (4) grandchildren, Branyai (“Yai”) Cloud, Michael (“Mikey”) Washington, MikeErion (“Doogie”) Washington, and Aideyn (“A boi”) Lamb; five (5) stepchildren, Robert Johnson, Deranda Johnson, Tiver Reece, Robbie Giles, and Melissa Giles; four (4) brothers-in-law, Kenneth Blow, David Giles, Lawrence Giles, and Johnny Giles; six (6) sisters-in-law, Deborah Williams, Terry Williams, Candace Williams, Wanda Giles, Joan Giles, and Kathy Giles; 11 step-grandchildren; a special “bonus” granddaughter, Brianecia Burnett; a grand-pet, Cody; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
