Carol was born in Crystal City, Texas in 1929. She met her husband, William Suhr, at Baylor University in 1947. They married in 1948. She became an elementary school teacher. In 1965, while raising four children & going to school at night, Carol received her Master of Education degree & her Counselors Certification. At that time she was one of only 16 elementary school counselors in the state of Texas. She became the first elementary school counselor for Fort Bend ISD. Carol retired in 1990 & continued to work as a counseling consultant. Years later she started a quilting business, Carol’s Quilts.
Carol & her husband pastored many churches in the Houston area. She was an integral part of traveling with him to do short term mission work. Together they traveled to Mexico (several times to Oaxaca), Haiti, Costa Rica & Ecuador. She was also the president of Ladies International, of the Association of International Gospel Assembly (AIGA) in Missouri. She was active in the local AARP. Carol & her husband also worked with several Christian groups preaching, feeding & supplying the physical needs of the homeless living in downtown Houston.
Carol is preceded in death by her husband, William Suhr, & one grandchild, Judah Janet Wise. She is survived by her four children, Martha A Harris of Waco, Texas, Sarah E Hurst of Houston, Texas, William (Bill) Suhr & fiancé, Megan Milford, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, & Ellen Iglesias & husband, Oscar, of Village Mills, Texas, ten grandchildren & twenty-two great grandchildren.
