Carla was born on August 31st 1930 in Quitman Missouri to Carl and Elsie Johnston. She had one younger brother Craig and three older half-sisters Margaret, Betty and Phyllis who have all preceded her in death.
She graduated as valedictorian of Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, Missouri in 1947. She went on to graduate from nursing school in Kansas City, Missouri at Trinity Lutheran Hospital where she worked as a surgical nurse. Carla worked as a nurse at several hospitals including Memorial City and Sam Houston hospitals in Houston Texas.
Carla married William Mack Dillow on November 6, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri where they began a marriage that lasted fifty six years until Bill’s death in 2009. She is survived by her three sons, David and Roger Dillow of Houston Texas and Mark Dillow of Mesquite, Texas. She is also survived by her granddaughter Rebecca Martin and her husband Dennis Martin of Denton, Texas as well as her great grandson James Martin.
Carla and her husband Bill were long time members of Tallowood Baptist church in Houston where she was a member of the choir for four decades. One of her greatest passions was arts and crafts. She was a dedicated Tole painter who produced hundreds of projects on canvas, wood and a variety of other mediums.
In place of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Boys and Girls Country.
