Remembering our good friend Sonny and his family on this day.

Sonny,
Thank you for showing bravery and being an older white man not afraid to teach at a Nimitz High School when lord knows it was hard to show up and stay there. Showed me how adversity couldn't detour you from your ultimate goal. We all knew your ultimate goal was to reach out to anyone that might need a helping hand, or a genuinely nice social media comment, or just a simple mustache equipped smile. Those rosey cheeks will be missed on my Facebook posts. Sleep easy big guy.

I met Sonny at SHSU in 1980 and we immediately became friends. He was one of the nicest, most honest and nonjudgmental people I have ever known. We had some great times together and bonded through our love of beer. He attended my wedding in the Cayman Islands in 1990 with his brother Duane. We kept in touch through the years and I attended his 60th birthday party two years ago. It was a perfectly timed decision to go as that was the last time that I saw him. I must say with a very heavy heart goodbye my friend. Thanks for the memories. You were a very special person and I will forever miss you. May your soul rest in eternal peace.

Sonny was a great family friend for over 45 years, Sonny along with his Mom and Dad would always come to our boys birthday parties.  We would always play a few rounds of basketball. Sonny had a great sense of humor and really enjoyed joking and having some laughs along the way. He had a kind heart and always treated everyone with respect. Rest in peace my friend.
