In Memory of My Late Trivia Friend...Doctor Brad Craig R.I.P.

Dear Brad,

I only learned about your tragic and senseless death yesterday from your wife Brandy. I learned about the intoxicated driver that killed you. He was driving at 100 mph, while you were stationary in your white SUV at a red traffic light in Houston, Texas.

Rest easy Brad. I will always continue to miss your wit and intelligence, especially from the good old days when our old trivia team got together on Tuesday afternoons at the Sams's Irish Trivia gig.

I will never forget you and Brandy’s acceptance of me. You both allowed me to be part of your awesome trivia team that won the North-American Trivia Network title. I was not the fastest thinker on your team, especially with my slower than average keyboard skills. You, Brandy, and your team members of brilliant women and men, never ever embarrassed or ridiculed me in private or in public about my handicap.

Brad, you will always be remembered for being a...

My memories of Brad are from a family reunion in 1974 (not sure where in Texas we were). Below are a couple of pictures. Please keep all the good memories of Brad in your hearts.

I only knew Brad from a distance as we were both shared an interest  trivia. My thoughts and especially my prayers are with you and your entire family and your friends today and every day.

I'm very lucky he was my friend; I will never have a better one. See you on the other side for some beer, golf and trivia.

Although I have not seen or spoken with Brad in many years I do know that the World we live in has lost one of the good ones we trust, rely and count on every day. 
My memories reflect to a kid who could not be a nicer, kinder, calmer and more genuine young man. Just always seemed to be so more advanced than so many of us during our childhood. Brad had this walk through life figured out well before many of us others could even see the starting line.
My thoughts upon hearing of his tragic and sudden loss so randomly is heartbreaking and just so saddening of course. However knowing where his faith and place of peace ultimately lay should provide comfort for all us us who count and rely on Angel’s like Brad to watch over us on this tumultuous walk through this life we are on.
I for one am truly Blessed to have been touched by his presence in our childhood, and the thought of those memories I will hold closely to help me continue to be the best man I can be.
Thoughts and Prayers to all those who were touched in someway by Brad, most importantly his loved ones.

We met playing trivia and from the beginning I was struck by his wit, prodigious intelligence, and gift for hospitality.    It's hard to find words that don't sound trite in saying that my deepest condolence and sympathy go to all his family.   His friendship was a lift in my life.

Someone I grew up with was killed today in a car accident. 
I have not spoken to him in probably 35 years, but we literally were children together. He was one of my first friends ever. My earliest memories include him. 
I spent the night with him when I was 5-6 years old. We slept on pallets in his game room. His mother watched over us. She fed us and gave us Golden Grahams in a cup for us to pretend it was astronaut food. When the streets flooded in the neighborhood we caught crawdads with our bare hands right in the street. 
We learned to ride bikes together. It’s hard to believe in today’s world but our parents set us off into the streets on our bikes alone, with tall orange flags that were supposed to be a safety measure.   They taught us to get off our bikes and walk them across the street crossings.  We obeyed, and rode them all the way to the 7-11 at Cartright Rd. and Murphy Rd. where took a quarter and filled a bag with penny candies.  His Dad taught us how to take out a bike tire, patch it using a lighter and put it all back together. 
We got in trouble together. We almost burned down a neighborhood kids house playing with matches. We through rocks and broke the glass of a house under construction costing our Dad’s 900$ each to fix! We almost blew our fingers off with firecrackers and bottle rockets.  We caught fireflies and put them in jars on hot summer nights.
We flew kites together. One time we put our Halloween costumes on a week early and went Trick or Treating. The parents were surprised but gracious, and still gave us candy. Whenever Halloween did come around Brad’s father drove us around in their Golf Cart to the houses.
When I broke my arm, it was Brad’s father who was a Veterinarian, who diagnosed the break. His older sister baby-sat us and later we all had crushes on her. 
His family took me to church on Wednesday nights and introduced me to Christianity. When hymnal requests came around, Brad would choose Battle Hymn of the Republic just to be  funny. We were mischievous together to say the least. We attended youth group together all through high school, always pushing the envelope and checking out the girls. 
I remember him in his youth. We played football in the yard and he taught me about Billy White Shoes Johnson because he thought I was fast. We played soccer together, and when we lost Brad would fall to the ground and pound the dirt. I can still see and hear him. We played baseball together on the Bobcats and lost every single game that season.  I remember marveling at Brad’s ability to memorize all the stats on the back of the baseball cards.   I tried but could not even come close.  And we would actually listen to talk radio and laugh at the crazy callers.  
We played with toy guns and marbles. We walked to each others houses and grew up with each others families. I remember his poodle Pepe and his Siamese cat Taco. We actually watched and loved the movie That Darn Cat because of Taco. We went to see Rumplestiltskin and The Three Pigs at the Children’s Playhouse. We learned how to swim together at Bradley Halls house. 
He moved away. I was crushed. He was my best friend and he went off to Ohio with his family. Ultimately he came back to Texas, and even though we were friends it was never quite the same. But I loved him and his family. They were integral in me becoming who I am today. 
Slowly we lost touch but I heard stories. I was both shocked by him but proud of him. So impressed with him going off to study Economics. Who does that?
I did not know him as an adult. I don’t even know if he had a family of his own. 
But we grew up together, along with a fairly large number of individuals in the neighborhood. Our little world of just the two of us grew and expanded to neighboring streets, to neighborhoods and beyond. As our world expanded we grew apart. 
He was my first best friend. I’m so saddened by this loss. 
You are loved and missed Brad. Godspeed old friend I will see you again. 



Brad was a gentle giant who let his actions speak for him.  I met him and his lovely bride at Trviapalooza years ago and he was taken from us way too soon.  My thoughts are with the entire family During this time.

Rest easy my friend, I know we weren’t that close, but I’m very sad about this whole thing. We are all concerned about corona virus, and all you did was stop at a light , and now your gone. I’m having a hard time trying to see why this had to happen!

Brad was highly intelligent and a great trivia player. Damn good cook too!  Rest In Peace  brother.  

My heart broke for Brandy and Brad’s family when I saw the terrible news on Tuesday morning.  I am so very sorry for your loss.  Brad was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever known and also by far the best trivia player ever!! For years after my time at Duddley’s Draw, I would always look for Clavin on the NTN trivia boards whenever I was at a place that had trivia.  My favorite memory of Brad is him bringing his actual putter to play mini golf when we were friends! Makes me laugh just to think about that.  It makes me sad that I lost touch over the years, but I will never forget how great of a guy Brad was or how perfect he and Brandy were together.  My condolences to all of his family and close friends.

Brad was a true friend that I visited EVERY time I visited Houston and those times were many. He shared brilliance in trivia games with me unreservedly when I played trivia with him at Sam’s Pub. Brad invited me to golf with him several times when I visited and was a wonderful, gracious, host to me when golfing even though I was nowhere near his ability at golf either. Brad was the only clear, conservative voice among the trivia players that we teamed up with and he had no qualms expressing himself or supporting me when we voiced conservative opinions to a hugely liberal group of trivia players. Most of all, Brad demonstrated a great love for his wife, Brandy, that was a model for others. I truly loved my friendship with Brad and look forward to the time I may see him again in the Bible’s promised resurrection. 

Brad you were a good man, husband and son-in-law.  A kind person with a great smile.  We love you and miss you.  Rest in peace.

Brad was one of my closest friends, who made me feel like part of the family.  I will always remember all the great times we had together.  Rest in Peace, my friend. 


Brad, I love you so much and my heart is breaking. I miss you and so do all of your friends and family. You were so special to so many.  We all have such great memories of you and want you to know how much you were and are still loved.

Our heart goes out to you and your family, Carolyn, at this tragic loss.  May God give you comfort as only He can.  He has already demonstrated His strength in your life through the last few years.  Continue to hold on to His power.  

Brad has left his friends the gifts of peace, strength, and kinship in their memories forever.
